Obama's Tuesday speech - will EPG update?
The networks will be rearranging the March 24th prime time schedule to accommodate the President's speech. I wonder if the epg will reflect the changes.
Here are some details, ">> Fox is arguably the most impacted network and took the longest to agree to airing the speech. The network will move Tuesday's two-hour performance episode of "Idol" to Wednesday, and the Wednesday episode to Thursday at 8 p.m. That preempts "Lie to Me" and "Bones" and puts mega-rated "Idol" against the mega-rated NCAA finals (which neither Fox nor CBS are all that thrilled about). >> NBC will move Tuesday's two-hour "Biggest Loser" to 9 p.m., preempting "Law & Order: SVU." >> CBS likewise is dumping its 10 p.m. procedural ("Without a Trace") and moving its two earlier dramas, "NCIS" and "The Mentalist," forward an hour. >> ABC will cancel previously planned back-to-back episodes of "According to Jim." |

I'm seeing changes in my EPG, with news or TBA in the 8:00 slot on three out of four networks. ABC still lists "According to Jim", but I'm guessing that will change in a day or so.

My experience is that the EPG is adjusted for these advance-notice speech's. Ones that occur due to some sudden event, of course, don't make it in to the EPG. The prior address to congress a couple of weeks ago was in there.
BTW: All 4 networks have it in the EPG from 8 to 9 (EDT) now

Looks like the epg has been updated. Now, let's hope the speech doesn't go too long.
Wonder if there will ever be a time we are not dependent on the epg ? Some sort of transmission sent to Sage to signal the program and the exact start / stop times. The epg is pretty accurate but wouldn't it be great to get rid of the 'padding', particularly with sporting events, eg. football games. Thinking about it, it would be a monumental task. Sage would have to monitor all the channels simultaneously and compare the gathered info to the favorites database, in real time. Hey, Sage, get right on that, ok ? |

How about an intelligent 'autopad' option? Special programs (sporting events, award shows, presidential speeches, etc.) would 'intelligently' record the next show on that channel.

(most major) Sporting events are already covered by Slugger's Sage Recording Extender.

Quote:
Sluggers' Sage Recording Extender will monitor certain websites that provide information in real-time for certain sporting events. His plugin will then extend the recording time for that event on that particular channel. Not everything (award shows, presidential speeches) know how far over they go until they are done and no website carries that information. Gerry

If you're recording the Academy Awards or other event, just record the next show on the same channel. It may be Academy Awards overtime or the 11:00 news.

You could do that. Of course it will be 2 seperate recordings. (Unless you're talking about padding a half hour or an hour). So in your recordings list you would need to know what show follows the Academy Awards to finish watching the end of it.

I have my recordings sorted by time recorded, newest first. So they would be right next to each other.
