Upscaling / Playback resolution ?
I am looking at purchasing one of these very soon ( today works for me ! ), but I need a quick answer first...
First some background : I have a LOT of my movies and music on my local NAS ( HP-MV2010, 1 terrabyte of storage ). I got tired of looking for the specific DVD/CD I wanted, and just ripped them all. Add in my collection of family videos, training videos, etc. Now I can watch/listen whenever I want on my PC with a 24 in monitor... Which is cool... but this device sounds like an AWESOME solution to get my media to my 46 inch LCD in the living room ! But, a lot of my video isn't in 1920x1080... So .. Does the HD Theater 'upscale' my video or stretch it to fit my screen ? I'd be real disappointed to watch Blade Runner in a small box ( 688x384 ) on my big screen TV ( 1920x1080 )... can I manually set the resolution ? How does the HD theater handle this ? |

You actually have a couple of options for the video:
1. You can set it to output a certain resolution such as 480i, 480P, 720P, 1080i, or 1080P. If (for example) you set it to output at 720P, but you play a 480i video, it will upscale it to fit the 720P screen (so no you will not be watching it on only a small portion of the screen). 2. You can set it to ouput the native resolution. This means if you play a 480i video, it outputs the video at 480i and lets your HDTV upscale it. The nice thing is that if your TV does a better job of upscaling, then you can use option 2, but if you feel the HD200 does a better job then you use option 1. Just as a side note, I believe the database has a 32,000 item limit (can someone verify that is still the case?). So if you have a lot of pictures and music, you could hit the maximum. I personally don't use mine for pictures and only have about 10,000 songs and around 400 videos, but it can be an issue for those that have a LOT of pictures.
