Upscaling confusion: FFDSHOW

A little confused

Hardware: ATI X800Pro w/Catalyst 5.8 -----> Viewsonic N2750W via DVI.

1280x720, 1:1 pixel mapping, native on the LCD TV.

Isn't the video card or TV upscaling a DVD already? How does adding Resize with FFDSHOW (@1280x720) add detail?
