Sage, WHS and folder duplication

Hi,

Is there any reason that I should not turn on folder duplication for the folder containing my sagetv recordings?

TIA

Jesse

I have had a horrible time with it. I have been testing it for the past few weeks, and every time WHS goes to do the folder duplication, SageTV will choke because the demigrator service takes priority over the system. It's not Sagetv's fault, its the way they implimented the folder duplication.

Personally I don't. As mike has said and I have also seen some performance issues with it on. And I would rather have more space available for more recordings. If I lose recordings odds are it will be on again at some point in time to record again.

Plus, you can schedule a copy in the middle of the night to another server, or hard drive with something like Synctoy 2.0 etc..

I agree to not use duplication for TV - I do use duplication for my WHS Videos folder so anything that I am particularly worried about I archive/move to Videos. All Kids shows I automatically transcode to Divx and move to Videos with a SJQ rule.

I have reversed my duplication on just about everything and do a backup to a drive that is not in the pool now. I did not have any performance problems but I wanted to be able to recover any file that got deleted manually. In the duplicate setup there is no archive in the event of a brain fart by someone in the house.

Okay, sounds like folder duplication for sage recordings is a no go.

Thanks for the input.
