HD200 will not drive my plasma....
by that I mean.....
I have a Panasonic TH-42PWD6 which is to say a progressive wide plasma - i.e. not HD. But wide, as in 852 x 480 pixels. In any case I have a DVI blade in said plasma, and I have a windows XP box with an nvidia on board chipset that had been giving this plasma all the SageTV goodness it can handle. The DVI blade handles the following signals.... Quote:
Today, I thought I'd hook up an extender and move my server closer to it's OTA anntena. Since an extender I previously purchased worked out great in the bedroom (component). (I have a DVI/HDMI converter dongle that I purchased for this task). Well the HD200 will not produce an image on the Panny plasma display except for the SageTV logo upon power-up. Yet the same extender will produce an image on my computer monitor in my office (via same DVI, HDMI dongle) on every output setting available. (1080P looks pretty green, assuming my display does not support it). Have I made mistake with this second HD-200??? I don't get it. DVI is DVI. |

Actually DVI isn't DVI. There are different flavors (DVI-A, DVI-I) but going beyond that make sure you use the VIdeo Out button on the HD-200 remote and cycle thru and wait for it to sync to see if it finally syncs up at one of the resolutions. Then if it does in one of the HD200 setup menus set it to always be HDMI. (I forget what the exact wording is.)

Tried the very button you recommend. Perhaps I did not dwell long enough on each setting.
What is the spiel? Must I cycle power on the display for every attempt at the output? FWIW: When I plug the cable back into the PC I get desktop without having to cycle power. PC is set to res of 1366 x 768 When I cool off I'll try again. Last edited by Slack; 03-15-2009 at 06:42 PM. |

It sounds like your plasma uses DVI-A (analog over DVI) and not DVI-D (digital over DVI). The HD200 uses DVI-D, which is signal-equivalent to HDMI.
I'm betting that your set is compatible with a DVI-VGA converter, which just changes the pin-out of a VGA port to DVI (and vice-versa). |

On the extender you see the Sage boot up screen. SO a little while after you are sitting there staring at a black screen. Now is the time to press the video out button and wait a period of time to see if it syncs and comes up with a picture. (could be 30 seconds or could be 1 or 2 minutess) If nothing press the button again and wait. Basically you are cycling thru 480i-480p-720p-1080i-1080p. (I think that's basically the resolutions.) Because your display is basically progressive wide and not truly an HDTV (resolution-wise) It may take your TV a while to recognize the signal and sync appropriately. You may also want to try after cycling the video out button and not getting anything to try turning your TV off and then back on to see if that helps the sync.

Go into Settings->Advanced Setup->Multimedia and select 'Force HDMI Mode'. That should fix the problem.

Just when I start to doubt the little HD-200 wunder-boxen. Narflex steps in, and all doubts go away.
First it was the ReadyNAS open share issue. Now this. You rock. Now I can return to my plans to totally reconfigure my server box. Muhahahaha... |

This should be in the FAQ
I gave up on my TV and switched to YPbPr 5 months ago and just ran across this thread. Presto! Force HDMI fixed it.
