HD200: Artifacts when playing HD video (.mkv)
I got my HD200 yesterday, and I absolutely love it! It's brilliant, and WAF is gaining several points!
We watched "Batman Begins" in HD yesterday. I noticed lots of artifacts throughout the movie and I was starting to get a little worried. It turns out that all HD mkv movies shows artifacts. The artifacts are not there when I play the files on a computer using VLC or similar (streaming from the server) It seems to be a decoding problem with the HD200. Has anybody else seen this? Is it possible to solve? I'm on WHS, running SageTV server 6.5.11 and the lastes firmware on the HD200 (I think, I updated yesterday). |

All the mkvs I've thrown at it seem to reflect the quality of the clip involved.
More like a case of garbage in = garbage out. If you encoded them, then give the hd200 more bits to play with. If you acquired them from elsewhere by others, ask encoders to increase bit rates. Failing that, get bigger files next time. Alternately.... Get a crappier TV. Sit farther away. Dial down the contrast. I think that the fact that VLC does not exhibit 'artifacts' (I assume you are talking about macro blocking or color banding ??) might be because the monitor can't show them. Just a guess on my part. Generally my plasma shows macro blocking, and color banding on anything. My own Xvid encodes, or 'acquired' mkvs. Whether played by XBMC or Sage, or Sage extender. Of course I only notice them if I get close - Normally I sit about 15-18 feet away. |

Try the beta firmware. You can get it by typing 'beta' on your remote on the system update menu.

That was my first thought, but since VLC can handle the files without problems, I figured that isn't the case here.
Excellent! I'll try that. |

The new beta works!
... and it corrected the other issue I was having with the HD200 not automaticly connecting to the last used server. This is fantastic! |
