How to have a favorite newscast record
I like to watch The O'Reilly Factor. It's on 3X a day on the Fox News Channel. I added the show as a favorite and SageTV records it three times because there isn't any episode id information.
I suppose I could set a hard code time but i'd like SageTV to be flexible enough to choose and prioritize which timeslot to record. What I did for now is move it to the lowest priority on my Favorite List so hopefully if there's a conflict I'll maybe get 1 shot out of 3 but that's not certain because some days I end up missing the show because it's so low on my priority list. Is there a way to tell SageTV to only record this show once per day? |

I had the same issue with a different news show and got around it by telling sage to only record in the time slot that the show is on. That also gets around sage recording the rebroadcasts on the weekends.

I know it's annoying for it to record a show more than once, but I just live with it. SageTV records Nightline 5 times per day. I watch the first one and then erase all of them. What's really annoying is then there IS episode info and it still records again and again. And also when I tell it "Erase because I don't like it" and it still keeps recording that show. Why bother to ask if you don't pay attention to the answer?

If I hard code the time slot then I lock down that tuner during that hour and I might miss something else due to the conflict. Because it's a news show the oldest episode I might ever want to watch is about 2 days old no longer. So I set the favorites to store at most 4 epidsodes. Since it's on 3X a day that means I always have 4 episodes in the queue and two of them are repeats while two are unique. I might go a week or so without watching the show but when I sit down and decide to watch it I don't want to watch old broadcasts only today and maybe yesterday. But as I mentioned earlier, sometimes I miss all three broadcasts due to recording conflicts and when I sit down to watch the show all four episodes in the queue are old. Very frustrating. Ok, another approach. I like to record the NewsHour at 3pm. But SageTV never recorded it then. So, I have a timed recording at 3pm and then a low priority Favorite just in case it isn't on at 3pm as usual (like this week because it's pledge week).

Your options are to record all 3 and delete the multiple recordings or confine Sage to a time slot. I confine Sage to a time slot and if I see a conflict notice I manually solve it by having sage record one of the other airings of the news show.

There are a lot of things I would like SageTV to do (like play back reliably), so this one isn't high on my list of complaints. That's what the delete button is for (you can even delete them all at once!).
