Stutter Playback Workaround

I have intermittant stutter playback and have tried everything to get rid of it.

I personally believe it is a buffering problem within SageTV, because of the 'sort of' workaround I have found. I have set my Rewind to 1 sec. and this usually fixes the playback, sometimes for the rest of the recording, sometimes just for 10 seconds. But, it confirms in my mind that the file and playback devices are OK and it is a playback problem.

(My other pet peeve is that the system assumes that a local network connection doesn't need transcoding. Mine does, but there is no single set of settings to make it work acceptably on the local network AND the internet.)

If SageTV can really FIX these problems so that the system is robust enough to operate acceptably in the face of hardware, software, or human imperfections, then maybe it will really take off. Given the ongoing problems and difficulty of trying to solve them, I can't really recommend it as a solution to any of my friends.
