Video Stutter in Playback

I just set up an new HTPC, P4 2.6 Ghz 512mb ram with a 160gb Maxtor 8mb cache 7200 rpm HD and I installed SageTV. I'm a sagetv veteran and I have 2 other PCs running it perfectly. The new pc cannot playback the video without stuttering and jerky frames. I can play the same file across the network on my other pc and it is fine. Obviously the recording is fine, and the hard drive is ok. I tried using sagetv, zoomplayer, and PowerDVD as the playback software, all display the same problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?

Video driver or display settings most likely...I'd got that route first.

I'm running catalyst 3.4 on a ATI Radeon 8500. I can try 3.5 or 3.6 I suppose. The screen is set to 848x480 with Powerstrip. Other than that I'm not sure what video settings to tweak.

I did some checking and the pc can play AVI/DIVX and MPG/SVCD/VCD without a problem. The problem seems to be with the high data rate of my recordings. If I lower the bit rate the playback is smoother. I could try reformatting the drive with a larger cluster size but it wouldn't explain why a network computer is able to play back the files with no issues.

It was the cyberlink filter. It works fine with WinDVD5. Strange.
