Problems installing second HD PVR
Hi everyone-
I know there have been many threads about this and I think I've read most of them. Still having a strange problem while attempting to install a second HD PVR. Basically I've had 1 HD PVR up and running great without any problems into a headless server. When I try to add the second device, Windows (XP Pro SP3 fully patched) doesn't complain. The second Huappauge device appears on my device manager. Here's the weird part. When i test the tuners using total media extreme, the NEW HD PVR displays an image while the OLD one that had been working flawlessly doesn't show anything. Confirmed in Sage... When I add both video sources, the new one is working and the old one gives the dreaded error code saying I need to update drivers on my capture device. My HD PVRs are plugged into different USB hubs... one on the front of my case and the other on the back. Of course I've closed Sage and stopped the service each time I've tried to uninstall, install etc. Looking at the device manager, one thing that troubles me is that both Huappauge devices are listed as Location 0. Should this matter? Can anyone verify that multiple HD PVRs should show as unique locations in the device manager? Any ideas? I'm fresh out. About to uninstall the OLD previously working device and set up sage with just 1 HD PVR source using the NEW one... Logic aside. Thanks in advance Noah |

The plot thickens
OK some more testing and info for those of you who are hot on the trail of this mystery...
First off... I should have mentioned that both HD PVRs are set up using component and SPDIF inputs. I installed the drivers and TME software on a second machine, hooked up the failing HDPVR to it windows (XP Home SP3) recognized it. I got the same result when i opened up TME to view the current feed... a blank screen. Then I changed the sound input to RCA Back and VIOLA... an image! So I'm wondering if choosing the SPDIF input is causing the HDPVR to fail. The newer box doesn't have any problem using component + SPDIF in Sage. The one that doesn't work on either machine when choosing SPDIF worked flawlessly before I tried to install the new HDPVR. Still a mystery... and maybe I can live with 1 HDPVR hooked up to sage with 5.1 audio and the other with 2 channel. Thanks in advance if you have any ideas on this. |

What revision is the old HDPVR? The first few revisions could not do SPDIF. If this is the case you will need to RMA it for a newer version.

I use a nice little piece of software called UVCView.x86.exe. It displays a map of your USB ports/connections. On the USB 2 Root Hub there are usually 4 pairs of ports. Ports 1 & 2 share a channel (I think that's the correct terminology), Ports 3 & 4 share, Ports 5 & 6 share etc. Most mbds have at least 4 pairs, ports 1 through 8. My two HD-PVRs happen to be on ports 2 and 4. They are the only 2 USB 2.0 devices I have attached to my SageTV server.
