Direct TV Does Not Display

I added the Hauppauge WINTV-HVR-1600 to the video sources for Direct TV coax out to the analog cable in on the Hauppauge. What I do not understand is that I when I change the channel on the Direct TV box I see the channel info briefly until it goes away after a few seconds and then the TV display is black. I am using the analog Direct TV output with channel 3.

Why the brief channel info display and then nothing?

The way you are set up (with the coax) SageTV would have to be tuning the Internal tuner on the card to channel 3 and you would have to use you hand held remote to change the channel on the DirecTV box. Unless there's a way to lock the internal tuner to ch 3.

They way you should be set up is to hook up the s-video and L/R audio outputs from DirecTV box to the s-video and L/R audio inputs of your 1600. Have SageTV tune the channel you want to record on the DirecTV box (ie 501 etc.). Set up your 1600 in SageTV as a source using s-video input and using the DirecTV EPG to schedule your recordings. You would need a blaster (IR) stuck to the front of your DirecTV box for SageTV to do the channel changes.

Do you have a blaster that Sage can control?

I have the IR blaster, but i can't get it to work (same card, it comes with a blaster i believe, atleast mine did =p).

I can change the channel in sage via remote, but i can't make the blaster change the channel on my stb via the hauppauge remote.

I am just trying to get the card to tune to channel 3 out of the Direct TV box box for now. I have the options of either ch 3 or ch 4. I have the switch from Direct TV set for ch 3 and it does work. I am seeing the channel changes from the Direct TV remote where it shows the channel info briefly so I must have the coax and ch 3 configuration set up correctly. Yes, I understand the S-video set up if I have to go that way. The coax should also work but why just the brief channel info and then a black picture?

I plan to use the USB and serial connection combo to control the Direct TV channels. I have nopt gotten that far yet. I want to solve one problem at a time.

Have you tried running that coax from the DirecTV box directly into a TV to see what happens then? Does it display the channel(s) properly or does it only show the banner and then nothing like what you're seeing in SageTV?

That is a good idea. The HD TV does not even have a coax connection. What I will do to troubleshoot this is to try the S-video connection. This is at an office location that did not have internet connections until a couple of days ago. I was able to get Direct TV working with the coax on a simple channel 3 and where I changed the channels manually on the Direct TV box. Something seems to have happened when I got the interent. I think that coax signal from the Direct TV box works enough to briefly display channel info but something happens after that. I can't imagine what is going on here. Some driver get updated incorrectly after internet updates? Is the coax signal changing state after the brief channel info?
