Weather - Current icon is always NA
Is anyone else seeing the current weather icon as NA all the time? I would suppose something changed in the feed that cannot be interpreted correctly... no idea how to fix it either.

Nope-not seeing that. Make sure you have a connection to the Internet. It gets that information from weather.com.

I would suggest double-checking your zip code. It should be working. (As far as the US goes.)

No, the zipcode is right. All the data on the weather screens is correct except for the current info. On some clients it's fine, but others it says NA.

I've noticed it comes and goes on my clients, as if there is a new weather description being used that doesn't have an icon associated with it.

Isn't there an option to display a text description of the weather? If you turn that on you should be able to figure out what weather condition it is looking for. Then you can find the most appropriate icon, copy and re-name it to match. Assuming the icon names match the condition names that should work.

Well, I suspect the icon naming vs. weather.com's names is probably the case.... I don't know a quick way of figuring out the changes either... I suppose I will have to see if the xml file sagetv downloads for weather will yield any clues when I get a moment to do so.

OK. Here's the deal. The NA condition is brought to you by none other than weathernetwork.com. I put a sniffer on the line and captured the packets while I changed the location from city to city. It turns out, my city and a few others get fed the NA while others get fed the real data. So the question is how do we get the folks at weathernetwork to fix it?

I contacted the weatherchannel.com and have so far received no response. The problem is consistent and replicatable. The two cities I have used for testing are Regina, SK, CA and Winnipeg, MB CA. The data sent always has NA for current condition icon and NA for barometric pressure among other things.
I looked at the method used in Sage to glean the info, but have come up to a road block as it appears to use some compiled java code to strip the info from the xml file… that is beyond my expertise to do anything with. So if we can’t get the source to fix their stuff and we can’t edit the code to somehow take the info from somewhere else, then can we use some other RSS feed from say theweathernetwork.com? And if so, how can I make that change? I suppose it wouldn’t work because the java parser is built for weatherchannel.com. It would be nice if we could choose any RSS feed and edit the capture fields as need be so we could easily fix this, but alas that is beyond my reach as well. |
