Best PVR 250 encoding settings?

Currently I am using the 3.25gig per hour settings, it is quite good but I am wondering is there a better setting that I can use without going too high in bit rate?
Thanks
Patrick

It all depends on what you want to record. Sporting events will require a higher data rate than standard. For what I record, 1.8 GB/hr is just fine (although I usually record at 3.25).

How can I set custom bit rates?
Is it in the Sage ini? What line would I change?

There is customization info at

http://www.freytechnologies.com/developers.html

Where you can find instructions to customize the recording quality for Hauppauge cards.

Is there any tricks or tweaks apart from raw bit rate settings? Are all these bit rates constant bit rates?

Seeing you can set vbr=1 in those settings I would imagine those would be variable rates.
