coreavc 1.9

has anyone been able to get coreavc 1.9 recognized in sage 6.5.9.

core 1.9 now supports mGPU decoding support for nvidia 8200/8300 onboard GPU and I'd like to see if this works better than cyberlink for my system.

can't get it to show up in the decoder list.

You'll need to add it to the additional video decoders line in the properties file probably.

I thought that option was only relevent for MPEG-2. For MPEG-4 you either choose "Sage Player" or "DirectShow". There's a line in the properties file that you can use to specify the decoder for MPEG-4, but I don't think it's accessible from the UI.

I briefly tried CoreAVC 1.9 and it didn't work out so well. The black levels were wrong, and when I tried to bring up the configuration from the tray icon, it hung SageTV. So I gave up.

Complexx,

To Change the H.264 decoder to CoreAVC you need to manually edit the

videoframe/h264_video_decoder_filter=

line in sage.properties and/or sageclient.properties depending on your setup so that it reads

videoframe/h264_video_decoder_filter=CoreAVC Video Decoder

So far hardware acceleration with the new CoreAVC codec is working for me but then I've generally not had problems with H.264 playback on the machine I'm using so this may be machine dependent.

Jerry

Ahh thank you. I'm a bit confused now..

When your watching "live tv" with an HDPVR, are you watching an H264 encoded video, or an MPEG2...

Ah, good point, totally spaced the fact that it's H.264 we're talking about.

The HD PVR records in H.264.

Is an average CPU load (4850e amd) of around 50% normal when decoding h.264?

My only concern at this point is this high CPU load. What I'm noticing is that if I start up SageTV with nothing else running in the background, picture quality is pretty smooth (I think it should be better), but if I open up task manager after SageTV is already running to monitor CPU load, picture quality gets noticeably worse (choppy) and does not improve until I restart Sage.

I was having a hell of a time getting smooth playback and found out that if I turn off all the GPU settings like AA/AF, etc... picture quality got much better. Are there other settings within windows, or GPU that I should be disabling/enabling to improve this picture smoothness and quality? based on what I've learned from reading these forums and other online hardware/av forums, my system should be able to handle sagetv and h.264 without any issues.
