How to keep server running?

I'm new to SageTV and so far I love almost everything about it. Here are my two relatively minor problems, I'm hoping someone here can help me figure them out.

I'm running sage on my main desktop computer. I have a HD-200 at my television and I use it for watching tv 90% of the time. I do, however, occasionally turn on Sage on my computer.

1) If I turn on the SageTV software on the computer, it works fine. If I then shut down that software, it actually shuts off the SageTV server service, and my HD Extender can't reconnect unless I manually restart the service. There's no way I can find to minimize sage back to the tray, and no way to shut it off without killing the service. What am I doing wrong?

2) If I restart my computer, the HD Extender automatically shuts down, but doesn't come back on until I manually turn it back on. I assume this is just how things are and there's nothing I can do about it, but I figured I'd at least ask if there's a way to get it to stay on and try to reconnect.

Thanks so much! I appreciate any and all help.

J

Consider using service mode for SageTV, covered in the SageTV PDF manual, starting around p. 15 in chapter 2. It runs separately frmo the UI, so you can close the UI w/o affecting the service. BTW: service mode is not the same thing as having the extender server enabled.

The HD200 doesn't reconnect automatically, but you can try using the Home button on the remote to restart it in its last state instead of booting to standalone mode before it connects to your server. (It reconnects faster that way.)
