Placeshifter No Longer Connecting
Something really strange has happened to the Placeshifter connection on my work laptop. I have used Placeshifter while on business trips for about 1 1/2 years on two different laptops provided to me by my company. I have v6.5.4 beta installed (matches my server) and I used it about 2 weeks ago while on a business trip with no problems at all. Last week while on another business trip Placeshifter stated it could not connect to my server. After getting home and playing around for quite a while now, the problem is getting stranger. If I try the other computers on my network, Placeshifter works fine. I get both the selection for the Locator ID / IP and the Local Network versions, and both connect fine. On my work laptop whether connected to my Verizon Wireless WWAN or my local network I can not connect with the Locator ID /IP selection, it gives me the Connection Error and says I need to use the Configuration Wizard (which I have several times). And, while it is on my local network (wired) it never provides me with the Local Network selection. I have all of the ports forwarded that are mentioned in the manual, but still nothing. I am really baffled by why I do not get the Local Network connection like I do with my two other computers. Any ideas? Is there something on the laptop that could have been configured that will not allow the laptop to connect to my Sage server? My company did install a new version of Nortel VPN, but off course I do not use it with Sage. Internet connections seem to work fine other than this problem.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks. |

It almost sounds like your work installed a new firewall on your laptop; at home, on your wired network, can you enter in the server's IP address as a new connection and connect to it that way?

I was not able to connect even if I entered the servers IP address when I was on my wired or wireless network. I played around for a while (and it really took a while) and found that I could actually disable the firewall. With it disabled, Placeshifter worked great again. So, it looks like my company updated the firewall on my laptop. I have not figured out how to open the required ports. It is weird that I can disable it but not change it. Oh well, it looks like my Placeshifting is over. |
