Controlling Dish network control box
Just ordered Dish Network TV< i will have it by tuesday.
I will have the HD 211 control box. I have 2 HAUPPAUGE 1600 model 1183 cards plus a PVR 150. Win XP pro PC. The 1600 cards came with a IR reciever plus another IR transmitter that plugs into the IR reciever which then is suppose to send a signal to the Dish control box to change its channel. Do i configure the IR transmitter somehow in Sage TV ? The instructions about configuring the IR transmitter that plugs into the IR receiver that came with the 1600 cards are about for windows media center. Iam also email tech support for HAUPPAUGE but i thought since it involves Sage TV people would no what to do here. Or at least give me a clue on what to do. Iam not even sure which cable connection i should plug into the 1600 card from the Dish control box. Right now iam just useing an antenna getting the HD digital channels that are broadcast over the air. Plus for remote control i use the usb IR reciever with the 45 button hauppauge remote control. This is the card i have, 2 of these and this is the reciever and the IR transmitterthat came with the 1600 cards. |

I'm not familiar witht the 1600 card, but I have a HD-PVR which also has a IR blaster (although it looks different than your pictures). I'll discribe how I've gotten it to work with the HD-PVR and hopefully that will help you in your situation.
First, the Hauppauge unit comes with IR blaster software. So I installed that when I installed the drivers. The main IR program is called BlasterCFG. You open that program and set it to the correct STB. So you would pick Satellite, then DishTV, then find your STB model. Then you simply close the application. There really isn't a save button or anything like that. Then you install SageTV as normal. If you already have SageTV installed, you must remove it (uninstall via the control panel) and reinstall it. You won't loose any of your settings (channel line ups, recorded shows, etc) by doing this, but you must install SageTV after installing the Hauppauge software. It will not work without following this step. When you get to the source setup, there is a option to choose what IR blaster you want to use. There should be a choice for the Hauppauge blaster now. Choose that blaster and everything should work. Be sure to refer to the SageTV manual - Appendix F for more information on the use of IR blasters.

Thanks for your help. Right now iam just using an antenna to get over the air HD tv. When i setup sage tv it asked about using my Hauppauge 45 button remote and that worked fine.
I couldnt find any IR blaster software that the Hauppauge software installed. But i was able to find on Hauppuage web site IR Blaster software for the 1600 card and downloaded that. With what you said and what it says in the Sage tv manual i think once i get Dish Network installed i will hopefuly be able to figure my way through it to work. Any Hauppauge 1600 users out there that have sattelite TV know which input iam supposed to use for to connect the STB (set top box) to the 1600 card? Not sure exactly whay kind of signal comes out of the Dish STB. Since it will be HD tv i guess i should connect to the ATSC/Clear QAM digital cable input? Not sure since its not going to use the tuner built into the 1600 card but the tuner built into the STB. Last edited by dc9mm; 01-25-2009 at 03:09 PM. |

I was getting ready to try the same setup, were you able to get this to work? Also which port did you plug in the Dish receiver to the tuner card?
