.13 randomly deleting files?

This sort of goes with the guy that lost 120gb worth of recordings but I just went to check my video directory and my tv show that I recorded on sunday night(ST enterprise) and one that I had recorded on Monday night(American Choppa) are both gone.

But there are still a couple of file in tere from before I upgraded but not all of them.

Were they recorded as Live TV shows or were they scheduled recordings? Were they watched? Are they Favorites set to delete automatically as SageTV needs to do so? Do you have IR on? Are you running out of disk space & SageTV needed more room?

Yeah there is something, so far the deleting we have seen is not "random". If it was not a Favorite, Manual, or IR it would be deleted now though.

Yup, I have seen the EXACT same thing!

I have had two or three UNWATCHED FAVORITES episodes since going to .13 get deleted, even though there is >50 GB of watched files it could have deleted instead.

Definitely a PROBLEM here...

I guess I'll submit a bug, although I don't know how to give reproduction steps.

It was a watched favorite? How about setting the favorite to manual delete? (AutoDelete: No) Of course, then the problem will be that it _never_ deletes it.

I'm curious -- do you have IR on? If not, perhaps it now sees watched favorites as expendable. From what others have said, this new auto-deletion of files when IR is off seems to be a bit aggressive.

Once a file is Watched Sage adds it to its deletion queue. Set your favorite to never delete or move it to the Library to keep it. You can also remove the Watched flag to keep it a little longer. With IR on it would try and make space ASAP.

This is behavior consistent with 1.4 and how it will work in 2.0.

Do you mean it will delete it soon in the future _just_ because it was watched, or just when it needs more drive space to record another show? (Oh -- or if it reaches the max # of favorite episodes allowed.) If I don't manually delete watched shows, they will stick around... but then I have lots of free disk space. AJ said "Disk space is fine", so I think that means there is plenty of space available too. I took that to mean that with IR off, it was seeing those watched shows as immediately removable. Note that I have IR turned on & watched shows are not immediately removed.

Well, I can say that my system is currently running with 4 gigs available to sage. Its only deleting watched shows to free up disk space when needed. I dont know the rhyme or reason to the watched show deletion though. I have had a few movies around for a month marked as watched that does not seem to be getting deleted. It seems to remove episodes of the same show that were marked as watched on a regular basis. I will come home and 2 or 3 shows recorded and it removed a watched episode of all three of those shows. It could be becasue the time of recording/space matched but I have plenty of other hour or half hour shows it could choose.

My watched shows stick around until space is needed. With IR on in theory shows would be constantly deleted since Sage keeps the drive full and basically does a swap out of a show for the new IR show it is recording.

As for deletion order it does use an intelligent mechanism. It does not seem to be using date recorded\watched exclusively.

If AJ had IR on for any length of time (could just be overnight) his drive would be used to its capacity.

OK, then you don't mean ASAP as in: delete As Soon As Possible, but to delete As Soon As Prudent, when space is needed. I'll stick with the idea that the deletions he experienced were due to the new "IR is off, so delete extraneous files" being too aggressive... uh, provided he meant IR was off when the deletions occurred.

That depends -- with 360GB available for SageTV & over 100GB regularly free, it takes more than just overnight. IR never seems to delete for me (exactly the way I want it), since I don't let it get full.

What I couldn't understand is why it was deleting the files as soon as I finished watching them(these were favorites). The way I thought IR was supposed to work is that once the drive is full it starts to delete the IR recordings not the favorites.

I tape'd a show last night(favorite) and I watched on sage. I went over to my workstation to re-compress the file and thow it on my file server but the file wasn't there. Then I remembered earlier in the week, when I knew I was also had more then 50% of my disk space free, I went to recompress a favorite and it wasn't there. I had just watched the favorite.

If they are getting deleted when there is plenty of space free there could be something going on.

However, to record any new show including an IR show and it does not have space for it, Sage will delete watched shows (regardless if they were Favorites) to make room for them.
