What has gone so wrong with my USBUIRT/pvr500 setup?!?

I have been fighting with my stb for weeks now in terms of channel changing. I have a motorola dct6200 that is used for SD digital cable only. It is controlled by a usbuirt, but in the last few weeks has stopped responding to the usbuirt. In trying to fix, I ran all windows updates (way behind, now on sp3), installed sage 6.5.7., and tried both the built in settings for the 6200 and the 2000. I can't seem to get this behavior to repeat, I can uninstall/reinstall everything, but eventually it will quit again

Where do I start looking for clues/

Make sure the USB-UIRT emmitter didn't die. There may be utilities at the USB-UIRT forum or install EventGhost and try to blast something else. Or if you have an external emiter plug that in and see if it can blast. Make sure the device is OK in Device Manager. SP3 is a little more tighter for security-maybe an issue?

I've also had problems when the USB-UIRT cable is too close to other cables like power cables.. Simply shifting the position of the USB cable can fix the problem (sometimes only after a reboot though).

fingers crossed, it appears to have been a cheapo usb hub that has been reliable up until now. took that out of the mix, and we appear to be running again.

thanks

Grrrrr. That wasn't it either, but I know for sure it's the usbuirt. Tried it without the hub, and it worked until tonight, then disappeared again. The flash utility from Jon's site doesn't find it either. I put it back onto a powered hub to see if that helps. It's now working again, but I had to reinstall anyway, so not sure if it is the hub or the reinstall that did it at this point. But even with it working, the flash util doesn't see it. I don't know that that is a bad thing as it appears some have had a lot of trouble with the new firmware, and it looks like Jon hasn't responded to a forum post since May. In any case, we'll see if I can get more than two days out of it this time.

One thing I noticed is that it seems to almost be motion sensitive now. Just waving my finger in front of it gets the led to come one. Don't know if it was always like that though.

have you experimented with moving the cables around so they are not near other cables as I suggested?

Not yet, that's next if/when the powered hub fails. Sounds like proper wire paths are definitely something that is necessary but it won't be easy, plus I prefer to rule out the hub as the problem so I truly know what I'm fighting with.
