Auto Compress - What trigger is used to start the conversion process?

I have just set up auto compress using JREKiwi's excellent plugin and configured it to auto compress some channels.

As these channels record 24/7 (using the 'never_stop_encoding=true' option in the sage.properties file)

I have not set any favourites on these channels as it is always recording, Was wondering what trigger is used to start the conversion process?

Thanks

Long time no hear.

It's triggered on Recording Complete of an Airing, so I suppose it will depend on if SageTV is seeing multiple airings in the EPG

Happy New Year John

Thanks for your reply. I was wondering because the recordings for the channels setup to auto convert don't always appear in the list and are not converted

Do you think it may be down to the record 24/7 setting with no favourites set up?

Thanks
Anne

If it's set up as a channel compress then it doesn't matter that there's no favorites. Is it a channel with no epg data?

It may be because of the 24/7, does that create multiple recordings? or is it multiple files for the same recording?

These channels all have epg data.

I use your plugin to create multiple copies of the same recordings (ipode high and iphone-standard).

Will keep an eye on it over the next few days to see if moving the mpg's to central storage too soon maybe the cause.

Is it only triggered when the recording completes? It also seems be triggered right after you configure channel or favorite auto compress settings.

Can the plugin also watch the recording directory to see if there are any mpg files that lack .autocompress files, and if they meet the channel or favorite criteria, auto compress them?

One more question. What if I want to auto compress all my recordings, always on an ongoing basis. Rather than have to set it for every favorite I add, can I just setup all my channels to autocompress? Will this also cover manual recordings?

I've steered you wrong. It's triggered by a scan that occurs, every 12 minutes. You can change the timing of that scan.

When it does it's scan it checks any file that has finished recording since the previous scan to see if it is eligible to compress.

Every hour (also changeable) the scan will do a scan of all files to see if any are eligible to compress.

A full scan is also triggered for the next scan when a recording has completed recording, but has a "Wait" criteria that is not met and additionally, when you enable a favorite or channel auto compress.

I suspect I need to do some more work on the scanning when multiple clients are enabled.

If you setup channel compressions, then it will run on any recording, manual or favorite on that channel.

Config Info

Where do you change these settings; can delay be set to do convert at a specific time, eg. bedtime ??

How about settings priority, etc.

Thanks.
