Anyone trying 6.5.7 RC with Windows 7?

Thought I would give this a try as I never could get smooth playback of my HD-PVR files in Sage in Vista (even with DXVA on and using EVR).

In Windows 7, I can play back HD-PVR files great in my old (P3, ATI AGP 2600Pro) system using Cyberlink video decoder and AC3filter perfectly; however, Sage plays the video for about half a second and the audio for about 2 seconds before the videostream freezes. Note that I can still click to move around the video and it will do the same thing, play for a sec or so then quit, every time.

Other notables are that "regular" H.264 videos play back fine, and I do have the SageClient.properties file set to use the Cyberlink decoder.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Mod: Apologies if this isn't the correct forum for this... please move if needed.

Thanks!

I am using Win7 Beta. I have one PCI tuner and a Aver M038. The Aver M038 is giving problem. It renders fine in win7 using the AverMedia Media Center software but not sage. I get either an endless doughnut or a playback error.

I installed the 32 bit version of Windows 7 Beta and Sage 6.5.7 RC on a test machine today with an Avermedia A180 connected to cable and configured for QAM and a HVR-1600 connected to cable on the analog tuner and to an antenna on the digital tuner. Everything worked fine just as it did under Windows XP.

I then reinstalled using the 64 bit Windows 7 Beta. The HVR-1600 analog connection worked without a problem. Both the QAM (A180) and the Hauppauge WinTV 418 TS tuner failed to find any stations. The scan just blew through all the channels and the scan completed in less the a minute and found nothing.

I then configured Media Center and it found all three tuners and all the stations worked. I reinstalled Sage and still no luck.

Is anybody else having any luck getting Sage working under the Windows 7 x64 Beta?

When I was running 6.4.8, my Sage box absolutely hated the Cyberlink decoders. Videos played back pretty much as you described in Sage using the PDVD decoders. I had to use the Arcsoft ones, until they started the beta demuxer file downloads. Using most of the beta demux files I was finally able to use PDVD8 decoders with Sage.

6.5.7RC has gone back to the 6.4.8 demuxer. Of course my system is XP Pro, and not Windows 7, but it might be worth a shot to try using one of the beta demux files with it.

Excellent thought; that would make sense, since prior 6.5.x betas had worked ok with the Cyberlink decoders in Vista, so I was suprised it failed to work in Windows 7.

I will see if I can figure out how to download and install the beta demux.

Hi jhammond,
You are saying you are able to tune clear qam from your cable wire with the A-180? I didn't think that was available yet. How do you configure Win7 media center for qam on the A-180? Thanks.

Getting the beta demux was super-easy.

Unfortunately while the video plays now, it is still choppy. Something with Sage as things are silky smooth when using Zoom Player with the same decoders. Reaching out again to Sage support although now that I'm in Windows 7 they may not want to spend time on it (although behavior is exact same as in Vista so maybe we can track down the issue).

Hi wheelrandolph,

Yes I was able to get Media Center under both the x32 and x64 versions of the Windows 7 Beta to find 11 ClearQAM stations and, they playback. Using Sage under XP I usually get about 38. It seems as if MCE does not search for anything but the "expected" local digital stations. The QAM stations I would normally pick-up in the "Analog" range are missing. So the ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC etc (clear QAM) stations under Sage show both the SD and the HD channels. Under MCE only the Comcast "Digital" channels are found.

Under Windows 7 x32 Sage works just fine as long as you configure "Homegroup". I tried using "Work Group" and it had less impressive results.

Under Windows 7 x64 Sage will only work with the analog tuner of the HVR-1600 card. The HVR-1600 Digital (OTA) and the A180 (QAM) do a channel scan in less than 40 seconds and nothing works. If you try to use "view" after the scan I get the following error:

Watch Request Failed Error (-17): The Playback Request could not be completed due to a network failure

This is in service mode. When I try running a scan in non-service mode the Sage Circle of Death runs forever (or until I kill the process) with the message "Channel Scan is Initializing".

This is a test box is use for "play". It now boots XP Professional SP3 (Very stable), Windows 7 Beta x32 and Windows 7 Beta x64. I know the hardware is the good and I tried my best to follow the same installation steps when installing got the x32 and x64 versions of Windows 7. I have all the partitions backed up to WHS after the base installation so I can restore any partition after to a base configuration after any bright ideas, you know!

I do not know what possessed me to try x64 because I have had Vista x64 on my desktop machine for what seems half my life and have the scars to show. Call me what you will. I deserve it!

I've been trying with the aver A180 with absolutely no success. This was an upgrade install over Vista. I then ran into the MSI Installer problem that is now beginning to show as a big issue with many on Windows 7. Reinstalled Windows 7 on top of Windows 7 and that cleared up the installer problem.

I guess it's time to give a clean install of 32-bit Windows 7 a try.

I have this same exact error with Windows 7 x64 and my HVR-2250 with latest pre-release drivers. "Error -17"

Windows Media Center works fine. According to the debug logs, there is an error accessing the BDA filter:

I did a regsvr32 psisrndr.ax (in system32) and now the analog 2250 Tuner's work.

I just want to update. It appears that the BDA MPEG2 Transport Information Filter has changed in Windows 7.

With the latest hvr-2250 drivers, Windows 7 Media center finds all my stations fine, both QAM and analog. It even automatically maps the QAM channels for me.

It's really nice.

SageTV and analog cards work fine under Windows 7 x64. But when I try to do a channel scan, I get the BDA errors in the logs. (The same as already posted).

I checked that BdaSup.sys, Bda.inf, and bdaplgin.ax are installed. So Windows 7 does have it, it's just different.

A quick google search for BDA filter and Windows 7 brings up some problems.

Sage staff, should I open a bug about it? I assume your getting ready for Windows 7 too, but it is beta.

Some of the splitter/codec calls have changed slightly between the prebeta, and the public beta so the VC-1, h264 and AAC decoders and more built into 7 may not work properly unless you are using media foundation, which most programs out don't since its so new. I wouldn't worry too much about it however as they have contacted Haali and a few other developers to assist in making some popular splitters work properly in 7, so they probably have information about the changes available on their developers network. There's no need to release changes to the public until its completely final so I doubt anyone will stress it until it is, six months from now.

While I can understand the "no need to release until final" comment, folks like myself that are running the Windows 7 beta would sure appreciate some sort of beta release or workaround that would allow Sage to work with the QAM tuners.

I finally got DTV working with Windows 7 x64 and Sage TV.

It turns out, psisrndr.ax, is missing from the SysWOW64 folder in Windows 7 build 7000.

Although psisrndr.ax is in C:\windows\system32\ (32bit version).

So I copied a psisrndr.ax from a Vista x64 Sp1 install (fully patched), and put it in my SysWOW64 folder.

Then I regged it (in the SysWOW64 folder):
Code:
regsvr32 psisrndr.ax
And now the BTV filter is available. I also copied some other files in SYSWOW64 as suggested by the bdaforserver project (Designed to allow TV cards on Server 2008, which is similar to the Windows 7 codebase). But I don't think the other files matter.

Anyways, I am hosting the BDA files for both x32 and x64. (you can find the x64 files in Source\x64 in my download)

http://ordorica.org/appz/bdaforserver_x64_x32.exe

still, Media Center doesn't need this 64bit file, so I wonder if Windows 7 intends you to use a 32bit version, or something else entirely.

Do any win7 services related to its media center need to be disabled? I didn't even think about doing this on my server when I did a clean install of win7 (32bit). Any other changes needed in win7? UAC? I've had a hell of a time getting my HDHR (qam) to work (using a feb beta from silicon dust), and I'm wondering if somehow media center is hijacking the HDHR or something is keeping the HDHR setup program from writing any files it needs. I can never get Sage to do the fast channel scan, and I have no HDHR named SCN or FRQ files anywhere.

@kirby.

As long as you don't use Media Center, it doesn't run any services that interfere with SageTV. In the new builds of Windows 7 (maybe it's in the 7000 build too) you can remove Media Center using Add/Remove Windows Features.

@everyone

I updated to Windows 7 7048 x64, but that broke HD recording. The BDA filter has changed and it doesn't work with SageTV anymore. Also, evr.dll in System32 and SysWOW64 is missing. I had to add them and regsvr32 to get EVR working. VMR9 doesn't work in Windows 7.

With windows 7 7000, even though I had my HVR2250 working, I was getting random analog video corruption (small, truncated files). The newer HVR 2250 drivers version 27xxx cause the corruption. Downgrading to version 26xxx fixes analog, but breaks digital.

I've now updated to Windows 7 7057 x64 (Pre-Release Candidate). I've given up on SageTV until they decide to build in compatibility.

My HVR2250 with driver 27056 works perfectly using Media Center, analog and digital.

I wouldn't expect everything to run fine on leaked beta versions of an OS. The next 'official release won't be until next month, anything between 7000 and whatever version that is will be suspect as to what works with it. With that said, 7057 is supposed to fix a nasty problem that 7000 had with my Dell laptop (a m1530, had very bad screen corruption if I used dual monitors).

I would also think that if the HVR2250 drivers are having problems, it's not a problem with Sage, it's a problem with Hauppauge. (I'm using 2x 2250's in my WHS server, and the beta drivers had all manner of problems, but the release 4.7 CD drivers worked perfectly fine for 4x analog anyway).
