Another Newbie Question

I wanted to keep my computer pvr in the A/V rack. I was wondering what was the best way of controlling the sage tv software and burning recorded material on dvds, that's all I would do with the pvr comp. Do I buy a wireless keyboard and mouse? I have a notebook computer in the same room with a wireless network. Is there a way where I can use the notebook to controll the pvr comp? Is there a remote control which can accomplish all the tasks? Please advise.

You might take a look at WinVNC, if you want to control you computer with you notebook. I've never had the need to use it so I can't offer any help with it.

Do a search and you'll find plenty of threads on DVD burning, there is even a recent one trying to do it with command line programs.

I use RealVNC (from the same company) to control my SageTV server from my Mac (or from another PC if my client is playing a program), and it works nice. I am not sure how well it would work for some of the more CPU intensive tasks (i.e., editing MPEGs) but it works great for controlling the server.

Two other options are using the Windows remote desktop (if you are running XP Pro) or getting a copy of the client.

How does VNC compare to PC Anywhere 11? I use PC Anywhere at present BUT compared to XP's built in remote computer access, it seems slow (screen refresh and responsiveness).
Anyone used the above and have any advice?

Also, make sure that your BIOS is set to not halt on a keyboard error. Personally, I picked up a cheap mouse/keyboard combo (US$9) that I keep plugged in. That way, if I have to use the console then all I have to do is move a monitor.
