Multiple Favorite Recordings
Hi,
I upgraded from v6.4.8 to v6.5.4beta over the holidays. It appears something has changed in how favorite recordings are handled when the "Keep At Most:" limit is set to some value (e.g. 15) and AutoDelete is set to Yes. I have several favorites set up for kids shows to record for my daughter. With v6.4.8, SageTV would record up to 15 and then stop recording (and remove the upcoming episodes from the scheduled recordings list) until my daughter watched one of them, and then it would record the next episode that it had not recorded before or she had watched. This kept the list at 15, but did not record any more until she watched one. Now, with v6.5.4beta once it has reached 15 recordings it continues to record new shows, whether she has watched any or not. The number of recorded episodes stays at 15, but it is continuously recording new episodes and and deleting older episodes whether she has watch them or not. Is this correct? Has this change been made? Is there a setting to change it back to the other logic? Am I just missing something somewhere? I liked it much, much better the other way so that SageTV is not recording and tieing up tuners when it really does not need to. |

This has not changed in v6.5. If set to allow auto-deletion, it would always record new shows & get rid of the older ones, watched or not, to stay at or under the limit. The only time it stops recording new shows when the limit is reached is when AutoDelete is turned off for the Favorite. Then, it won't record a new one until you dlete one.

If I read your description right, it sounds like the 6.4 behavior was a bug. With KAM = 15 and AutoDelete = Yes, Sage should record up to 15, and keep recording new shows, deleting the oldest to keep 15.
If you want Sage to Record 15 and then stop until you delete one, you should set AutoDelete to No. |

Interesting....
I know it was working the other way before I upgraded. I played with the settings for a long time to get them set up the way I wanted them. Maybe it was just not working right before hand, but it was working the way I wanted it to. So, you are saying the description of the current behavior is correct and has been? Is that correct? Is there a way and instructions on how to downgrade to a previous version should I decide to to see if it goes back to working the other way? Thanks so much for your help. |

All you should have to do is disable Auto Delete to get back to the way you want it to work.

The current behavior is correct. I'm not sure how you had it working the other way -- I have some Favorites set with AutoDelete on & some with it off and I have seen no change in how those Favorites have been recording lately. Those with it on keep recording more shows & deleting old shows; those with it off record to the limit (maybe 1 or 2 more), then stop recording more.
Maybe the airings have changed & there are more to record now, where previously there weren't more to put intot the schedule. - Andy

Thanks so much for the quick replys.
stanger89, I do not think setting AutoDelete to No will get me back to my previous behivor. That would just not record any more unitl I deleted one. Where mine would record a new one when one was set to watched, and that one would be automatically deleted. I watched how this worked orver serveral weeks or more, and it wored like a charm. So, with both you and Andy telling me the v.6.4.8 behavior I was seeing was incorrect, it must have been a bug. That is too bad, I really would like to have that bug back. For me it was the proper behavior. I was not tieing up a tuner when it did not need to record a new show since she had not watched one. And, it left 15 episods in the recording folder if there were no new ones to record (watched and unwatched). However, it really made my list of scheduled recordings fluctuate wildly since if it saw that a show had been watched it turned the favorite back on to record a new episode and it would load up the scheduled recordings list again until it recorded a new one and had a list of 15 that had not been watched. Then all future recordings would drop off the scheduled recordings list even if they had not been recoreded before or watched. I think this feature would be great to have. At least I loved it while mine was working that way. Thanks again for your help. |

You might want to try going back to 6.4.8 to see if it really works that way for you. I'm currently using 6.4.8 (the latest non-Beta release) and it works like Andy and Stanger described for me. I've been using Sage since the 2.x days and I have never seen this behavior changed. Linke Andy, I have some shows set to auto delete and others not to.
example1: "Entertainment Tonight" Auto Delete = "yes", keep at most = "1" (always keeps only the most recent episode and deletes the old ones whether I watched them or not). example2: "Modern Marvels" Auto Delete = "no" keep at most = "2" (records 2 episodes, but then doesn't schedule any more recordings until I delete one).
