No LowRes Display in Composite Output of HD200 after beta 20081230 0 upgrade

The HD-200. I know it’s meant for HD but I am currently using COMPOSITE OUTPUT on the HD-200 and have run into a display problem upon my recent beta upgrade to system version 20081230 0. My TV display from the extender in stand alone mode is compressed to a letter box type of display. Because I am writing this from memory I am simplifying the resolution modes to just the first set of numbers so please over-look my reference to them as not being totally exact. It should be sufficient to get my question answered though. When I look at Video OUTPUT in the set up section and select COMPOSITE, there are no choices to select where as for Component and HDMI, I have several that can be selected by checkmark (480, 720, and 1080 type resolutions). Before I upgraded to beta version 20081230 0, I had full screen display from my HD-200 extender and only when I played my hard-drive-stored wide screen DVD movies through the extender did the display revert to the letter box display (as it should) to play the movie then go back to full screen when I am back at the main HD200 stand alone menu. I suspect what has happened is that with the system beta update, the 720 type resolution is fixed in composite where before the update with the previous current-release system version there were two choices. Now, even the resolutions that can be selected in the SETUP part of the HD200 settings only offers 1080 and 720 resolutions but no 480 type resolutions. Again, my questions refer to using the COMPOSITE OUTPUT display mode on the HD200 extender. Can someone using current-release or an older beta version than 20081230 0 confirm for me this is a bug? That if composite output is chosen, are there a 480 and 720 type resolution offered for checkmark? and/or in the resolution choices in the settings area, do they go down to the 480 type resolution for selection? I will report it as a bug if so. Sorry, I would confirm this myself by reverting back to the current system release but a simple procedure for reverting back is not working for me with this beta release. (see post on reverting back for HD-100 –there are comments on the HD200 beta 20081230 there too).

Thanks

If I understand your question: as the printed manual that came with your HD200 says, there are no video output resolution choices when selecting Composite/S-Video.

Those video outputs methods can only output SD TV, so there is nothing to choose. Only Component & HDMI outputs can offer HD resolutions.

I'm running the 20081201 0 version and when I select s-video for the output I don't have the resolutions check boxes available. Isn't s-video 480 only anyway?

Thanks for answering so quick. So no choices when choosing composte output. OK understood.

How about in SETTINGS in the resolution choice line. I only see 720 and 1080 choices.. Shouldn't it offer 480 as well? So I can set the default display to be full screen -I am assuming this is 480 resolution.

Sorry, I only went through these when I first got the HD200 3-4 weeks ago and so don't recall what they were before I upgraded recently (this was my first upgrade).

Under resolutions in Component and HDMI, I have 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. When I select HDMI and do the auto configure I see all 5 of those choices but my TV only supports 480p, 720p and 1080i thru HDMI so only those three have check marks.

What about Video Output set as Composite and then looking in Settings, Advanced Settings, Multimedia and Output Resolution line? With this beta version I see a 720 and 1080 choices (now maybe with it being in Composite mode it should show nothing but it is there with selectable 720 and 1080 choices even though these have no display changing affect). Do you happen to see a 480 choice?

Thanks

I see 720x480i@59.94, 720x480p@59.94, 1280x720p@60, 1920x1080i@60 and 1920x1080p@60. Mine defaults to 720x480i@59.94.

I'm wondering if some old config data is causing this issue for you. Try resetting the config on your HD200 and see if that fixes it. (hold down Delete on the remote while you plug in the power for it; wait until the red light starts blinking repeatedly before you let go of Delete)

Thanks, I tried this already though in an earlier failed attempt to revert back to the current-release system version. The pull power, hold delete button, power on recovery did not work, this 480 display problem still exists and I am still in the same beta version 20081230 0. I submitted a request and I am waiting now for a response from tech support on an alternate way to revert back to current release.

When you go into Settings->Advanced Settings->Multimedia->Output Resolution what options exactly do you see?

You should have
480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p

And 480i should be selected automatically if you're configured it for composite/svideo.

Are you using the analog audio ports as well?

The current HD200 release version is also 20081230 which is why if you try to get the latest release that's what you will receive.

No there is no 420 versions to select. When I go into Settings->Advanced Settings->Multimedia->Output Resolution, the exact options I see and can choose are: 720 x480i@59.94, 720 x 80p@59.94, 1280 x720p@60, 1920 x1080i@60 and 1920 x1080p@60.

There are no 420i or 420p versions to choose and so 720 is currently selected (720 x480i@59.94)

I am using both the analog (red white) and optical audio outs.

I think you're misunderstanding something about resolutions.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_television

There's nothing wrong with that menu at all. Those options are correct. The second number is the 'resolution' that is commonly referred to, not the first.

Can you post a digital picture of what the screen looks like when you have this issue? And do you have more than one TV that you can try?
