Any Way to Get PShifter Same as Client?
OK, so I've migrated to Sage on WHS in my home and love it. However, I'm not happy with Placeshifter at all as a client replacement. I've got 3 clients hanging off my network and they all look absolutely perfect. However, if I try to use Placeshifter on a 4th PC with plenty of horsepower, there is a noticeable difference in the video quality, especially HD content and HD-PVR content. Things stutter and just don't look like HD at all, where as a Sage client on the same machine looks beautiful.
Is there some way to use Placeshifter as a full client instead of a convenient way to watch SageTV from another PC without installing the client? My server is just a P4 2.4 Ghz single core, integrated garbage video card. So, I set my client to playback media without transcoding figuring that offloading everything as-is to the client was the best way to go. The HDHR channels/recordings look OK....not great, but OK. The HD-PVR stuff really sucks, though. Any ideas?

Have you tried enabling 3D Acceleration and Video Post Processing on the Placeshifter Settings dialog? If so, that's about the limit of what you can do with it. The main thing that differentiates Client from Placeshifter is the ability to select specific codecs and fine-tune the playback pipeline to a much greater degree than Placeshifter allows.

I might be very wrong, but if I recall correctly placeshifter did not transcode when on the local network in the past. Seems that the latest versions always transcode, and possibly do so at bitrates that could be higher. I am not happy with video quality either, but rarely us PS so I have not investigated much; I just keep assuming that at some point it will get "fixed".
Can anyone verify that PS used to function in the manner I describe, that it did not transcode video when on the same local network as the server? Either way, is there any way to force this behavior now? |

Sorry to respond to my own post, but a post in this thread seems to indicate PS should work as I describe: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38398
Seems as at least my and ghostlobster's setup is not functioning in this manner? Any ideas? |

Do ipconfig /all on both machines and verify that they're on the same subnet (i.e. same DHCP server, subnet mask, etc). If your server has more than one network adapter, that might also affect it.
Not if nobody reports it.
