ATI OSD flicker

I'm having a problem with the OSD flickering in and out on my ATI box whenever I there is SD video playing in the background. The OSD cuts in and out badly whenever you scroll through shows (sometimes completely disappearing until you press a button on the remote), and flickers quickly when the OSD is stationary. HD video + OSD works fine, and I don't have this problem on my nVidia system. Here is my config:

- Vista Business
- Radeon HD4670
- Catalyst 8.12 drivers
- EVR rendering
- PDVD 8 codec
- FSE off
- 3D acceleration on

Any ideas?

Hi, I had the exact same issue you described as well and I unfortunately cannot figure out what exactly got it to stop. I am now using an almost identical setup to the one you described below. The only thing I can think to try is to turn off the animation system under detailed setup. I know that sounds strange but I think that may be what fixed the issue for me. I will play around with it tonight and report back if I figure anything out.

Wes

Yes it appears that turning off animation in detailed setup is what fixes the problem. Are either of you using SaveMC as that is what I am using so I don't know if this is a Sage or SageMC problem. Maybe we should open a bug report?

You need to go back to the default STV and replicate the issue before filing a bug report. Sage supports the default STV, not SageMC.

I'm using a plain SageClient install; no customizations.

I had the flicker with 4650 and 8.12 driver. I recently rebuilt my HTPC with a 780G motherboard, this has Radeon HD 3200 IGP - the flicker in SD and DVDs is gone. This time I used a Hotfix version of the ATI driver, it was released after 8.11 as a hotfix for 4650 because 8.11 were not compatible with this card (this is not the latest Hotfix posted on their site). I am not sure if this is what fixed the problem because the 4650 does more post processing but it is worth a try.

The file name for that driver is ati_vista_8.542_hotfix_br070928.exe
