Changing resolutions with HD-PVR setup...
Hi all,
I've been running my DirecTV H23/HD-PVR combo setup to ahve the H23 only output at 720p. I had that working perfectly and was happy with it. Now that I've noticed our 1TB drive filling up, I thought about letting the H23 output at native resolutions and seeing what happens. I'm also using the HD200 as the client. Well, I allow all resolutions (480i/p, 720p, and 1080i) currently and I probably get that "playback error" on the server machine about 20-30 times a day. It doesn't effect recordings or anything, but it is annoying. I think I'm gettign this when commercials come on and change the resolution out of the H23. Now onto the problem....I've noticed that when watching some channels in HD, the commercials come on and the resolution changes to something else causing my audio and video to momentarily drop out. VERY low WAF on that one. She said "fix it or go back to the old way - meaning 720p all the time". So, I pose this question....I think if I limit the output of the H23 to 720p and 1080i, I'lll acheive: 1) Fix commercial problem 2) still get my HD recordings in original resolution 3) give up smaller file size for SD show recordings. #3 is not too big a deal since I don't have many of those left. Those of you with an HD-PVR and HD200, what do you think? If you suggest just picking a single output resolution, which one, 720p or 1080i and WHY? |

Ok, so just an update.
I left the H23 to output at all resolutions to do an experiment. I look in my properties files for the server and the clients and noticed that my "delay_to_wait...." was set to 3000, which I know to be too short. So, I increased it to 4500 and I haven't had any errors pop up in the past day of recordings. I had another thought on how to fix the WAF issue I mentioned. I think I am going to shut off native resolution switching (or something like that) on the each extender so that the TV always sees a 1080p signal coming from the HD200. So, it seems like that after doing this (tonight) I will have solved my problems and WAF be high again (she is VERY happy now that we are using the HD200 instead of the client PC). I just hope that the upscaling/deinterlacing on the HD200 is of good quality (which I think it is). Later all...I'm surprised no one had any comments.... |

Beef,
I was asking myself this very question... This weekend I'm dropping my last SD DirecTV receiver and going to a solely HD > HD-PVR configuration. I'm thinking I'll allow only 720p on my receivers. Do you have any updates as to how your problem has resolved? |

yeah, I ended up letting the H23 output all resolutions but 480i and have the HD200 stuck to output at 1080p.
Works like a champ. -B |
