Sorry guys, I just today received an email about new posts to this thread! I thought about giving instructions for instsrv and svrany from the outset of this little project, but when I found I could build it into the .exe - I had to go that route in an attempt to keep things easy.

Sounds like the only issue is the filter setting while running as the (integrated) service? Shouldn't be a problem to fix, but it will probably be later in the week before I can look at it, if at all. Otherwise, I should be able to tinker again next week.

Thanks again for the feedback, glad there are some that can use this.

From what I saw in event viewer it was indeed just the filter setting that was being ignored.. everything else seemed to honour the setting I'd entered in the config file.

Great work on this app though

I just want to clarify - do you need two NICs in a PC to get this to work?

I have my (Linksys) Vonage VTA plugged into my router. I also have a couple of switches plugged into my router. Will this VonageSniffer work in such a configuration?

Afaik you need two nics, since the software will sniff the packets as they pass through the bridge you've created on you PC between the two cards..
(think of it as an actual bridge connecting the internet to your vonage box, and the software as cctv that monitors everything that goes over the bridge to get to your vonage box )

Kevin; I've noticed another problem.. if I specify multiple YAC clients (comma seperated) and one of the client is powered off it stalls at 'connecting to YAC client 192.168.1.xx' (sleeping pc) and doesn't move on to any of the other clients that are listed until I hang up my test call - then I see the incoming call on the other clients..

Also I noticed the problem with the filter setting doesn't appear to just be in service mode - it ignores the filter set in the config even when you manually run the app from a command line an specify a config file to use.

Thanks - that's what I thought was implied by the messages here but I was hoping that you could somehow just access your Vonage terminal through something like telnet and get this info.

On a related note - has anyone written an app that would allow you to access Vonage voicemail or view your call history? This should be doable as you would just be parsing the web pages that you can see from the Vonage web page when you log in with your ID.

zip file?

I can't seem to extract the exe from the zip, it keeps saying it's corrupt. I've downloaded it a few times to make sure.

Good news. First, I did get it to extract, I used 7zip to extract, it still throws a crc error, but I did get an exe out of it, so the zip is still a bit hosed.

Second, if i try to start it, I get the error

Panic: Can't extract C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp\pdk-admin\aa33d263ba8b3dd9f60e51317caf233f\perl58.dll

This is on Vista SP1 x64. I have perl\bin in the path, no luck. If I copy perl58.dll from the 5.8.9 install into that directory, and make sure perl5.8.9\bin is in the path it works. I only have perl64 installed, and that doesn't work at all. Once I get the paths squared away, it runs fine.

Now for the great news for you vonage users. No need to re-route your vonage adapter. Just install VonageTalk, its free, you don't need a pro account. And you don't have to filter your outgoing calls, since they don't show up, unless you use the softphone, then it shows your username, not your phone number.

Thanks so much for this fantastic app, the wife is going to love it! Not that I don't

I am also getting the corrput .exe issue.

Has anyone written the full docs on what you need to do to get this working? This is getting confusing as I believe that this thread was forked from another thread.

Do I need to install YacServer, Sage Info Popup, Perl, VonageSniff and VonageTalk (or do the 2 NIC/hub thing) to get this to work? What about YAC on my clients? Will this send the popup to all active Sage clients, including extenders?

I have got this working now with MediaPortal - would you mind if i crossposted the link and exe to the Mediaportal forums as there are a few people there looking to do this.

For info i have it owkring by installing a softphone (X-Lite) on the HTPC and setting the exe up on the same machine. MP has a built in YAC listener and it forwards the detail to that perfectly.

I guess the only thing missing for me (and i am not sure if this works for Sage users or not) is the number to name mappings that you get if you have YAC all installed - is this proposed or possible with this utility?

I have this working with ShadeBlue's popup. The only problem I'm having is that the number isn't formatted in any way. It shows up as 15555551212 instead of (555) 555-1212. I don't know whether the formatting should come from vonagesniff or the popup. Could you provide some help?

Gah! I wasn't getting notified of these questions again

@toricred I don't think I was expecting the 1 in front of the number (I don't think Vonage sends that). I can look at capturing it.

@thewan The more the merrier.

@wayner, @aflat Try downloading again, my server was having some trouble and I think it is better now today.

@aflat I don't have the means to test this on x64 (I do, but I really don't want to wipe my system for it)...so I'm not sure how to help here. I haven't even been able to test this in Vista x86, but I did compile it under Vista x86.

@swift_gti Thanks! I will make note of that and see if there is a way to make it timeout or test to see if the host is alive first.

Thanks for all the interest, hopefully my recent lack of response doesn't frustrate anyone too much. This week went by fast. I promise that I am still planning to work on this. I have been working a ton and we're also working on finishing our basement, so...real world priorities and all

@wayner I haven't written anything yet. Here's the jist of it...

vonageSniff acts as the YAC Server. No perl is needed to run it. The infoPopup acts as a listener for YAC and vonageSniff will also send messages to the original YAC Listener instances. I believe the people are using the InfoPopup on Extenders and a YAC Listener on PC Clients, but I could be wrong.

Hopefully someone else here will commend on the VonageTalk thing, I'm not sure what it is. In my setup though, I used Windows and/or Linux to bridge two network cards and plugged my vonage ATA adapter into one network card and my network into the other (this would probably work with a wireless card too).

@ Wayner

The utility works by sniffing the data from the SIP invite, so you have to get those invites to a network card where the util is installed. This can be done by installing two NIC's, bridging etc... or simply installing a softphone, i believe Vonagetalk is just a softphone right?

Once you have installed a softphone, I use X-Lite from my VOIP provider, then the SIP invite packets will be sent to the machine with vonagesnif installed and it can grab the packets, then it is a case of just editing the config file with your IP addresses and ports of the machines to send the caller ID info to - in my case it is the same machine on the standard YAC port 10629.

I am using it with MediaPortal but the concept will be the same for Sage, or even plain old YAC listeners on other machines!

Hope that helps!

Thanks Thewan I have VonageTalk installed and it shows whenever phone calls come through in its own app - very much like Skype does.

So if things work properly it would just be a case of installing VonageSniff which would see the SIP invite and send out the YAC message - is that correct? Should I still have the YAC server running on this PC?

VonageTalk is just a softphone. If you have vonagesniff running, you don't need a YAC server, vonagesniff acts as a YAC server and your listeners pick up its traffic.

@KJake - what are you using to compress the external dll's into your exe? Like are you using ilmerge, or some other third party app? I can try to do some testing if I knew what you were doing.

I am still having lots of problems with the file - the built in Windows Zip and WinRAR both say the file is corrupt. W7Zip complains but does extract the exe. When I try to run the exe it complains about:

Panic: Can't extract C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\1\pdk-Administrator\aa33d263ba8b3dd9f60e51317caf233f\perl58.dll

Am I doing something wrong here?

@KJake

The main problem I was trying to get at wasn't the 1 at the beginning, but rather the () spaces and -.

So then that means that you have to install perl on your PC as well?

I thought the KJake said "No perl is needed to run it(VonageSniff)"? Or did he mean that "No, Perl is needed to run it"
