Pluggin For Blanking Out Dirty Words
I was wondering if anyone has used Closed-Caption support to make a pluggin to that will filter out dirty words for ripped dvds. Is this even possible? I am a Software Developer so I would be willing to embark on this project but I am not sure where to start.
Any ideas?

It's only as good as the timing of the CC data, which is generally fairly poor. To really block everything you'd have to drop large sections of audio around the area, or have a volunteer project which makes .edl style files which could be used to generate an alternate audio track.
If you're concerned about it, not having them watch the DVD in the first place is the best option. If the movie has swearing in it, it's probably got worse visuals.

not true on the visuals. A great example of a movie ruined by swearing is Hancock. I know my boys would love to see it, it's the hearing it which worries me.
Good point on the cc timing though. It usually trails. B
