NOT deleting recordings!
I need help. Sage all of a sudden is NOT deleting recordings and live TV is freezing as a result until I delete some stuff from the HDD. Anyone know how to fix this?

It probably depends on why it's not deleting. Have you changed your folder permissions lately? Restarted the SageTV Service under a different user login? Enabled automatic comskip or other post-processing that might be holding files open? Made any other changes to your system config? Checked your SageTV debug logs for errors?

I think I'm getting this same problem. My logs are showing this:

I'm also having problems with Comskip ever since this started happening where comskip is getting access denied to the files and then it stops getting new files unless I start and stop the service again. I'm using the latest comskip version comskip80_007. Any help would be great. Thanks |

The latest comskip is actually 80.008. And Sage won't be able to delete the file if Comskip is currently scanning it. It sounds like something is keeping those files in your log open and Sage has to skip them. You don't have antivirus scanning those recording directories, do you? Turn it off for those.

Hmm..that's interesting. So if a file was already scanned 4 days ago, would comskip scan it again or does it know that it was scanned already? I'm afraid to set my comskip to check for new files at a frequent rate....

In DirMon2, I'm able to tell it to only run comskip if the mpg exists, but not if an edl file exists with the same name. So once comskip starts to run, DirMon2 will not have it run comskip on the same file. I have a polling time of 60 seconds.

Anyone know if comskip monitor rescans the same files all of the time? Is Dirmon2 easy to set up like comskip monitor?

OK, so I found my problem. Vista was holding the files in use for some reason. I stopped the Sage service and noticed that I still couldn't delete the files so I rebooted the computer in Safe Mode. I then looked at the TV directory and all the files that were suppose to be gone, were gone. Stupid Microsoft.
Also, DirMon2 is very easy to install and setup. |

OK, my server is doing it again. Files should have been deleted by Sage, but are still showing up in the file directory. Any ideas on what is going on and mainly how to fix this?
Thank you |

What user is the SageTV running under? Are you running it as a service? Make sure the user has all permissions to the recording directory.

Sage is running as a service and as system. I did retake ownership and reset permissions on the TV folder. The only other thing I could think of today was I did just install the c++2008 package for the new comskip and I think that is about the same time frame that the computer has been having issues. I have uninstalled it and reverted back to an older version of comskip. I will report back on the results.

Even though the drive is local Vista is a little different. I would switch Sage service over to a user (Administrator group) with a password and see if the issue still exits. The vcredist package won't be the cause of ths issue.

Do you have Windows Search set to index your recordings folder? If so, try disabling indexing on that folder.
If all else fails, you can use Procmon to find out which process is accessing those files, but it takes some practice to figure out how to use it effectively.

After removing the vcredist package and reverting to the 79_144 version of comskip, I have not had the issue for 2 days now. I'm not sure if it was the version of comskip or the vcredist package, but I'm good to go now.
