Configuring Silver PVR-350 Remote

Hi ,

I just got my new PVR-350 and installed it on my system, but I have no idea on how to configure the silver remote that came with it. Some very basic functions in sage TV such as the Menu button and the arrow buttons work, but the record, pause, play, and all the other buttos don't seem to have any function.

What is the best way to conifgure each of the buttons (what funtion on what button?) on how can i do it?

Can i just use the Hauppauge Remote Control program to do it all or should i use the gridder i have read about.

What's the best way. Anybody has a nice little manual for dummies here? ;-)

I just use the remote that came with the PVR-350. You can go to the detailed setup (Setup: Detailed Setup: Commands) and map the keys to whatever you want. I have changed my mapping to be a bit more like I was use to having with my TiVo.

You can configure the keystroke the remote sends to SageTV in the irremote.ini file in your Windows dir. Or, you can at least look at it to see what keys each button corresponds to.

Then, you can link the keys to commnds in SageTV so each button does exactly what you want it to do.

BTW... when you installed SageTV, did you check the box for it to install support for the Hauppauge remote? That adds the SageTV sections to irremote.ini & if most of your buttons are not doing anything, this is a possibility.

You can use the green button to wake/sleep SageTV with the following lines in irremote.ini:

[Default] section:
GRNPOWER={run(<drive:\path to Frey Tech>\SageTV\SageTV.exe)}{mode(SageTV)}

[SageTV] section:
GRNPOWER={ctrl}z{mode(Default)}

You can get the Hauppauge remote to do quite a bit, including controlling other programs by editing irremote.ini. For further info on the ireremote.ini layout/commands, see:
http://www.dschnabel.de/irdocen.htm

Once configured, be sure to back up the ini file whenever you install a new version of SageTV, and do NOT select to reinstall support for the remote or it will reset your [SageTV] section.

is the "<" in front of drive a mistake or is it supposed to be there?

Also, can I write "C:\program files\freytechnologies\sagetv\sagetv.exe", or do i have to make abreviations like "c:\progra~1" etc...?

heh... I just meant for you to fill in your own path between the < and > -- they don't go in the line. Mine is non-standard, so I don't list it.

I believe I tried that & it didn't like spaces in the path, so I would use the short versions of the names. But, it has been a while... you can try the long names if you want & change them if it doesn't work.
