Service mode vs. normal mode

I am reinstalling my sage on a new computer and am curious whether it is better to use service mode or not. My computer is on 24/7 dedicated to sage and does not have any clients connected to it. It is a dedicated HTPC and the only place I watch anything is on it. (I leave the interface running constantly) I do have one placeshifter license that I have not played with much yet. It is a Vista based computer with a HDHR and a HDPVR.

I would say you can go either way. The only thing, if someone closes your sagetv interface, then your SOL. If you have the service, don't matter if the sagetv is open or closed, it will continue to record for you.

No one will close it. I just wondered if there were performance differences.

I ran "monolithic mode" for a while. But I'm constantly messing with things (add-ons, reconfiguring the PC, etc) in ways that require me to shutdown the UI. I've moved to service mode to solve this problem and I like not thinking "Will I be recording something in the next 1hr or so?"

Another thing to think about is the possibility of the GUI crashing. If you don't run service mode and the GUI crashes your recordings will get interrupted (if it was currently recording). To me, this is reason enough to run service mode.
