Please help me - PVR-350 Video Out

Hi, I just got my PVR-350 today and I was so excited to finally try out SageTV. I don't really get the OSD to work though. What am i doing wrong?

Here is what I did:

I installed Windows 2000 on my AMD K6-2 350MhZ System. Installed Service Pack 4, Installed all Windows Updates, Installed Direct-X 9, installed Via 4in drivers, installed Asus V7700 deluxe drivers, installed Soundblaster 5.1 soundcard, installed Hauppauge PCR 350 with 1.8 drivers from shs, installed SageTV 2.0.13.

In the detailed settings I have PVR350 output enabled, UI output over 350 enabled, and Hardware Encoder Only Enabled.

I do see the live TV on the TV but i can see my osd only on my Computer screen. As soon as I go into the menus, the live tv picture stops until i go back into live tv. I never see any kind of on screen menus on my tv.

What has happened? Am i doing something wrong, or is there a problem with SageTV?

I would appreciate your help so much! I am really lost.

Thank you!

make sure you connected the s-video cable to the out on the PVR350 with that dongle thingie and not accidentally hook it into the input on the card. I did that the first time I tried to hookup the tv-out on the card.

I connected my TV via the yellow RCA cable to the Hauppauge card. (The one on the spliter where u connect the sound as well). I'm not using the Svideo out.

Another thing: I only installed the Hauppauge drivers and the remote program, none of the other hauppauge programs.

Have you only in stalled the drivers that came with the card? If so, go to SHS PVR and download the latest version.

I installed the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250/350 Base CD Intstall Drivers from the SHS website.

I don't know what the second installer kit is for though (Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250/350)

Ok, I downloaded the other driver pack and installed it over the base driver from the SHS page, and suddenly when I restarted the computer I could the the Sage Interface on my tv!

Unfortunately that lasted only a couple of seconds, than the menu disappeared again. When I restarted my computer I never had it back either.

I really don't understand what's happening. PLEASE, somebody help me :-(

I have noticed an odd behavior with the OSD under .13 and have reported it as a bug. If you move up/down you will see some screen flicker and the line you were on and are now on will be visible, but nothing else. If you go and play a file, everything works correctly. This is new with .13. To see an example of what I am talking about, go here.

thanks for the great video. that's really cool!

Unfortunately that might have worked when I got the onscreen output right after updating the drivers, but after the first restart i didnt get to see anything anymore. So now again I have absolutely no menu.

What i did was that i installed the base drivers from SHS in the very beginning and than after this post installed another drivers set on top from the same page (the one above the base kit, with the same release number though)

I don't even know why there are two driver sets on the shs page but after i installed the second one the menu did work for a couple of seconds but now it is gone again.

I usually go to the forum and get them. That way I can see any comments from users. These are always the latest but not always the best, Go here:

SHSPVR 250 forum

The first is 22037-That's the latest Hauppauge Intervideo decoder.
The second one, 22035 is what they call the base CD. It has the device drivers, wdm drivers and various apps from Happauge that you don't have to load. But it also the primary app that let's you change from Allow VMR. Allow Overlay, Force Primary or DIB draw. Point your card drivers to that directory to load or update the card drivers. Then run setup from the directory for the rest.

I don't know what happened now. I used the newest beta drivers from shs and changed to "force primary" and restarted my computer and suddenly the gui is working!!!

I don't dare to restart the computer anymore thoughy lol

Another thing: The video out from the hauppauge is way too big on the tv. It cuts off a lot of the gui and i think even the video picutre is too big. Why is that?

I thought this would happen!!!

After I restarted my computer the gui stopped working again, so I guess the force primary had nothing to do with it. :-(

I have no idea why it worked that one time and now stopped working again....

any ideas?

I know figured out how to get my GUI. It's a very annoying way but I guess it has to work until the next beta:

I start SageTv, play a recording, close SageTV, start SageTV, play a recording, exit SageTv....... and so on...

until the GUI works. That way I can use SageTV on my TV until I either shut down the computer, or SageTV crashes.

I hope this can be fixed somehow.

You will need to adjust your overscan settings to match your TV. To do this, go to Setup: Detailed Setup: Multimedia and choose the "Overscan Setting" button. This will allow you to use your UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT keys to adjust your UI so it will fit within the screen of your TV set.

Can adjusting the overscan help for the problem of dual monitor setup where one monitor (in this case 800x600 TV) is lower resolution than my main PC monitor? I find that I have to keep sage in a window, and move it so you cant see the tool bar on the TV. If I make it full screen you can only see a small portion of the screen as it is trying to make it 1280x1024 like my flat panel. I read on another thread that this problem can be solved by changing my main monitor res to match the sageTV monitor res. This is an unacceptable thing for me as flat panels look terrible at any other than native resolution. Also, I work on my computer while watching TV so 800x600 is unbearably fisher price.

Additionally, anyone know of a way to force sage to always load at specific screen coordinates? It always defaults back to monitor 1.
