I'm sold

Just set up a test Sage TV server on a 3 year old emachine with 256 MB and a built in video card. Setup was absolutely painless and it's 9,000 tiimes faster on a really lacking machine than my BeyondTV server is on a buffed out machine.

A couple of questions:

1. I have some folders containing some ripped DVD's (not copyrighted ones of course) - is there any way to point Sage at a folder containing DVD files and have it play the menu etc like you can do in MediaPortal?

2. Can someone point me at the best thread/faq on setting up commercial skip?

3. In my BTV setup, I currently have some scripts that I use to take .wav files from phone messages, turn them into .wmv files and play them through BTV so that my wife can listen to messages using BTV and the television remote. If I throw a .wmv file in a sagetv directory, will Sage pick it up?

4. Also where can I find a FAQ on setting up a plugin to allow Sage to control my cable box with my USB UIRT? I didn't see anything in the setup screens other than controlling Sage itself but I know it is possible

Thanks very much in advance,

Rob

Welcome Rob! Lots of former BTV folks here so you're in good company.

Yes, you should be able to just add those folders to your "video folders" in SageTV setup and it will play ripped DVDs with the menus if you haven't stripped them out.

I did this how-to on commercial skipping a while back which should help.

There is no plugin required. The USB-UIRT is supported in SageTV by default - you just have to tell it you want to use the USB-UIRT to do channel changes for that specific tuner. Should find info on that in the SageTV user manual. Start with page 254.

Since you're new to SageTV, you might be interested in the how-to's and other articles I've written about SageTV on GeekTonic.

Just wanted to point out that those DVDs need to be in Video_TS folders rather then iso files.
