1080p movie choppy

I have an 8.5G 1080p movie that is in a .mkv file. I recently tryed playing it through my SageTV and it is very very choppy and pixilated. I was under the impression that Sage could play 1080p videos without problem, so I assume it is just a setting I need to fix. The movie is streaming through a 100mb connection to the my SageTV extender which then has an HDMI cable going from it to the TV. Any suggestions?

Are you using a HD100 or a HD200? whether or not a mkv will play is highly dependant if it was encoded properly. The HD100 though was known to stuggle a bit with high bitrate direct from BD rips. Yours seems like it is lower bitrate so it must be an encoding error.

Can you give us any more info on how you encoded this file?

It's an HD100 and it plays just fine on my computer. The encoding is not the problem, I do not believe because I play 720p movies all the time and they work just fine. It is encoded using x264 though. I just need to know if there is a setting on the SageTV itsself that might make it work.

There is a HUGE difference between being able to play 720p and 1080p files on either HD extender. It's the encoding.

See this thread.

Your PC is simply more forgiving because it has umpteen more RAM and horsepower.
