4x3 Shows not full screen on 4x3 TV/Monitor?

This seems like a really noob question, but I've searched and can't fine a good answer anywhere. I primarily watch SageTV through my HDExtender on a 16x9 TV and never have issues awith aspect ratio. I just leave everything as "source" and widescreen shows look perfect while 4x3 shows pillarbox like they should.

However, I recently got a Hauppauge Media MVP extender and have it hooked up to a 4x3 TV. For whatever reason, any show filed in 4x3 does not take up the whole screen. It seems to have the 4x3 ratio but has been smashed into the middle of the screen.

I noticed that the same thing happens if I watch Sage on one my 4x3 monitors via Placeshifter, so it's not just the extender that's the problem. Here are some pictures of the issue taken of my 4x3 monitor:

This is the normal menu which shows that the full screen is used (This pic shows SageMC loaded, but I've tried the default interface and the result is the same). Notice the menu takes up the entire screen.

Here's what the TV looks like with a 16x9 show. The video is full screen with bars at the top and bottom like normal.

Here's what it looks like with a 4x3 show. The video is centered with lots of extra black space on all 4 sides, spread equally.

There is no place in setup to edit the aspect ratio to stretch it out. How can I set the aspect ratio when watching 4x3 shows to fill to the whole screen?

But I'm not entirely sure if this will work with a Hauppage MVP - it's all related to the HD100. I'll try and mess around with it.
