Which Sage Recordings do you use?
Just want to get some feedback on which Sage Recordings screen you use, and also any ideas to make it better.

I'm curious... can the info display on this screen or on the Details screen scroll to show complete info? I realize this is UI related & it was stated that v13 was focusing on bug fixes, not major UI updates, but I was wondering if/how it might be possible to display more show info...

I specified inline categorization with preview... that's the new one, right? I love it! Thanks.
I wish the list on the left (the category side) would extend up to the top of the window so as to give it more room. IIRC that's where the logo is. Hopefully I'll be able to tweak things like that once I get my hands on the tool that will go unmentioned. Now that I have finally started using v2 for real (I was plagued by unrelated problems on my HTPC and Sage server until today), I'm having a lot of trouble with the navigation of this new beast via remote. It seems there's been a move away from the notion of the "more info/details" button in favor of navigating left and right to dive in and out of things. This is somewhat unsettling and perhaps disturbing. For instance, when focused on an episode in the new view, I pressed the button on my remote that should have (well at least I think it should have) brought up the recording details, but instead it started cycling through the view schemes. In fact, I keep doing this... I just don't find left/right intuitive for diving in and resurfacing from menus. Again, I can probably alter this with the unmentioned tool eventually. I wonder what will become of the SendMessage situation, though. I hope I can really get intricate with splitting up the various actions into specific SendMessage IDs. I guess time will tell. Regards, Stuart |

I had to remap my yellow key to CTRL+I. CTRL+O goes into the preview menu options. Hope that helps. -Cab |

You forgot Autocatagorization with "If Active" preview (If it's one of the ones on the list I'll vote for it).
But I just started playing with the various views and I really like "Sage Recordings with inline categorization without preview." Is there an "If Available" form of the Inline Cat? Stuart, Sendmessage is still working great for me, although I would definitely like a few more of them. Not necessarilly now, but perhaps when/if we ever get feedback of the current state of Sage so I can set up Girder for Context Sensitive commands and so I can power the VFD in my D.Vine 4 (don't have the VFD yet). I really want to be able to display what I'm watching/if it's recording/what it's recording/elapsed time/etc. that would be really cool and would blow away any STB out there. Hey look, now I'm threadjacking. |

All of the views that say "with preview" follow the Sage setting of If Active if it is set. At least it should or will .
One area that has been talked about before but has not been brought up here is filtering. Would it be beneficial to be able to filter the list in any way. Initially I though filter by Favorite, Manual, or IR. Another possible view could be to how recordings by Category just like the Browse Categories screen. Any thoughts? |

I like all of those options. These are some things I'd like to choose as a "user"... e.g. whether to look at the list of favorites, manual's or IR's, and which of the categories (sports, drama, etc.) to see...
... and then there are things that are meant to be changed only by the "administrator"... in particular, I don't think it should be so easy to cycle through the various schemes as it is currently. Do you have the capability to move this to a configuration item rather than a user item? Or is the setup stuff off-limits to the studio? EDIT: you are entitled to say, "I can't tell you yet" if you aren't supposed to. |

It would be really cool to sort by whose favorite something is.... not sure if studio let's you actually add a field to the favorite-configuration, though.

Jeff will have to decide what to do about this - the options cycle was his idea. He may just be doing it for now so people can play easier and see what they like. I do agree it should be a configuration property.
He will be receptive to whatever the users want . |

For now it is a nice subsitute for a manual with screenshots from which users could pick, so until there is documentation it's probably a good way to let the user browse through the views.

Regarding filtering/sorting... I think it could be useful to have various sort options on the listing screen, perhaps: alphabetical, by recording date, by show length, orginal airing date, category, and/or whatever else might make sense. I think this came up a long time ago, but it seems fitting here.

I'm usining inline categorization with preview...sometimes. Sometimes without preview. One thing I thought might help is I catch myself pushing enter when I am in the left column instead of arrowing over. Would it make sense that from the left column when you hit enter it would just take you over to the right column and to the first file? Or maybe it's just me.

If I'm not mistaken, enter selects the item.... so that the list on the right is populated. This allows you to browse the list on the left without automatically selecting each left-side item that you land on. Or maybe I'm just imagining that in my memory... this concept is certainly used on other screens, though.
I'm in favor of this particular left/right navigation since I am trying to move focus left and right on a single screen. It's the ones where there is no left/right visual cue that bother me a bit. Basically, to get to a totally different screen (which has an inwards/outwards feel to it in my mind) I'd like to press enter and escape. To get to the right/left side of a window I'd like to press right and left. |

me thinks...imagination...
But seriously I thought as I'm in the left column, as I arrow up or down it shows me what's contained in there on the right. Like the left column is always like a folder. Sometimes I'm in the left column and there is only one show in the right column I press enter by mistake. To me I'm thinking like I have a folder chosen and now I should hit enter to get in the folder. I'm catching myself more, but the more I thought about it, to me, it just seemed natural. And left arrow could still go over there but the enter idea was just a thought. Another thought (oh god) was if there was only 1 file on the right side that Sage might be smart enough to know that I want to play that one file. If there was more than one of course it wouldn't and I would arrow up or down and then choose. Just tossing out some ideas during lunch. Gerry
