Help w/ Converting Transcoding

I've never used the transcoding engine in Sage. Never really found a need for it until now.... It's hardly documented!

My house is under construction, I'm living elsewhere. I have two objectives:

1. Compress video, so all my shows don't get automatically erased.

2. Copy a couple files off the server onto my laptop to watch at the temporary residence.

All my files are from HDHR or HD PVR, so I guess they're pretty big to start off with. I initially tried just copying them to the laptop. But it's a lowly 2 Ghz P4... w/ external 32 Samsung LCD. The raw files were very choppy.

Just converted/copyied some files using the HD MPEG 4 setting. Audio/Video is out of sync... very choppy using Windows Media Player, VLC, and TME. CPU is pegged.

What format should I use for conversions/playback on my laptop? Deinterlaced or not? Does that make conversion slower?

While I'm at it... Which format would be good for my WM 6 Treo 320 X 320? I've got core and TCPMP as well as WMP.

Thanks!

No one?

Well I copied a bunch of files transcoded to MPEG4 High Def Deinterlaced. They are .avi files. They play worse on the laptop than the raw streams. CPU pegged, out of synch and dropped frames.

Is there any documentation on transcoder? Any threads? I did search...

I'm finishing off a plug-in that does conversions *much* better than the Sage's built in engine. Keep an eye on the SageMC Video Tools threads.
