Transcoding avoidance
Ok, so my current setup avoids all transcoding:
- Tuner HW encodes mpeg-2 - All video stored as mpeg-2 - mvp extender HW decodes mpeg-2 - burn-to-dvd easy when all sources are mpeg-2 However, I am wanting a new extender and figure I may as well look into the HD one, but want to try to avoid transcoding on the server. I don't have a problem transcoding my entire library into some other format; it will take a while, but worth the effort to save disk space and effort of the server. So, my question really is: To which format should I convert and which tuner will HW encode into this format? The goal being for the tuner to HW encode into a format that can be streamed natively over the network to the HD extender without any server transcoding? I actually rarely burn anything to DVDs anymore, so I'm not as concerned with that. |

The HD100 plays just about everything natively, especially anything that's recorded.
