Could you list or screen grab your Video/Audio settings so I can truly mirror your setup Greg?

I checked the logs, and I'm not seeing the same mplayer crash messages that were posted earlier. Seems like maybe mplayer is working better for me than it is for you? I don't really know much about it.

I am seeing this message come up from mplayer every time I go to watch video on the client:

mplayer[11011]: Error loading /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio: dlopen(/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio, 262): Symbol not found: __keymgr_get_per_thread_data\n Referenced from: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/DVCPROHDAudio.plugin/Contents/MacOS/DVCPROHDAudio\n Expected in: /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib

I'll attach a jpg of my A/V settings.

I'm still set at 720p for all output on my DirecTV receiver, and I'm set at 'Great' quality on the Multimedia quality setting.

This is unrelated to your problem, but I thought it was funny.

Microwave ovens interfere with the N Wireless. I have been watching TV at my desk while I work today. I got up to nuke a cup of coffee, and came back to frozen video. I conducted a test, and nuked a second cup, watching bandwidth on my Sage server. See attached. Blue line is while microwave was running (no video came through), red line is recovery after microwave shut off, when video returned.

I'm not inclined to research this. I'm sure many people already have. It clearly scrambles the signal, and the video stream is sensitive enough to be disrupted.

Lol, yeah people don't get the wireless network/microwave/wireless phone interference. Blackberries are annoying with interference as well.

I checked my settings according to your jpeg and they are the same.

Maybe Sage Support will chime in at some point.

Well I just did another test and eliminated teh Network all together...

I copied a ts file over from the server to my local Mac and tried to play it. Same problem.

This has to be an mplayer issue! Switch to Quick Time PLEASE!!!!!!!

One thing we haven't really checked, is Java version on the client. I don't know what different components are dependent on Java.

My Macs are running 10.5.5, and the Java version reported is 1.5.0_16.

It's a long shot...

Over the years, I've certainly installed different video codec components, but I haven't kept track of them. I've loaded ffmpeg in the past, as well as things like DivX, and various other codecs, I'm sure. Perhaps I've got a component on my machine that mplayer is happier with?

i'm running 1.5.0_16 as well

do you have Perian installed? i have whittled down all my codecs to that singular packages - so far there has been nothing Quicktime cannot play with Perian installed.

My java build: 1.5.0_16-b06-284

Testing Perian...

BTW, bot this from support:

"Unfortunately playback of HD-PVR recordings is not yet officially supported
on the MAC. We are working on adding support for it. "

Wow, now I'm really confused?

Perian seemed to help a little in that I can stream FAIR quality but nothing lese and it's even VERY choppy. Bandwidth utilization is at 800Kb/s.

Also, any thoughts on what support said in my last post? I don't get it, nothing on the site says that the Mac Client is any different then the Windows Client and I don't understand why it isn't/wasn't able to stream HD content? I can't even get it to stream SD content either?

i'm having all kinds of issues with 6.5.X - the backend seems to work fine (recording, etc) but display and such is not working at all - sound dropping, choppy video, etc.

of course, i am the opposite of you - mac sever, pc client, but the server also powers my main tv.

i am anxiously waiting for the next beta to see if anything improves ( i have contacted support in terms of QT not being used for *any* media playback)

Anyone tried the 6.5.3 Mac Client with the 6.4.8 Windows(Vista) server?

Good luck with support... clearly a joke!

Well 6.5.4 beta is a huge improvement for me. I get video more often then not, but very jerky and unreliable and unstable as it crashes frequently.

I went back to 6.4.8 on the Vista server. Do you think 6.5.4 on the server and teh 6.5.4 Mac client would work better?

Must be on the right track though. Please please please a little more work on it before official 6.5 release!
