Is the $80 cost you refer to that of SageTV Server software or are you also estimating that hardware changes would be needed in the HD-200?

My situation is a bit different and I would be happy if an HD-PVR could be accessed in stand-alone mode. I have a TiVo HD to record digital cable and have thought about getting an HD-PVR to make backups of programs that I can't get OTA and worry about losing if the TiVo goes kaput. Currently, I do analog capture with a cheapo HTPC near my TV and TiVo but it is a bit old and noisy. I had thought to replace it with an HD-200 (and replace my BeyondTV setup with SageTV in the process) but I would lose the ability to occasionally capture analog output from my TiVo.

Since I wouldn't need to do any TV scheduling I would be satisfied if the HD-200 could simply re-route the HD-PVR output to a networked PC. I simply don't have the technical background to know if the hardware in the HD-200 and similar NMT devices could do this with only firmware/software changes.

$80 is the cost of the additional copy of SageTV server.

I do but only one hooked up now. They are supposed to though.

model #

Please post the Brand and Model # of any USB Hubs you get to work.

I have a homebuilt external DVD writer, will post the details when my HD200 gets here next week.

I just tried this - not sure if I did it correctly but it did not work.

Here's the steps I took:
  1. enabled sharing on Hd200 #1
  2. Plugged USB Thumb Drive to HD200 #1
  3. Browsed & played video file on thumb drive viea HD200 #1 to be sure it was recognized.
  4. Started up HD200 #2 connected to same network.
  5. Tried browsing the HD200 #1 folder via HD200 #2 and it showed no files recognized.
Am I missing a step?

The box that has the external storage needs to have its file sharing turned on in the settings.

It does. I can see that box "labeled HD200" from the second box. But can't see any of the video or photo files on it from the second box.

Even though you can't see the storage did you just try specifying the path?
