Using existing lineup questions

I dont fully understand the benefit of using the option of using an existing lineup. I have two tuners. When I go into channel settings for tuner 1, I choose channels A, B, and C leaving D, E, and F blank. When I go into tuner 2 channel settings, it's the same as tuner 1, if I modify tuner 2 channel settings, it also modifies them for tuner 1. I am totally perplexed.

What I would really like to do is something like:
Tuner 1: A, B, C, D etc.
Tuner 2: A, B, C, D etc.
And while tuner 1 is recording channel A, I can use tuner 2 to watch channel B. (In more concrete terms, I want to watch the hockey game while it is recording my wife's show). This is a common feature with more and more pvrs (dual-tuner).

Can I achieve this through using an existing lineup?

Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand your problem. If both tuners can tune the same channels, the shared lineup enables the same channels to be tuned on both tuners. SageTV will then be able to schedule recordings on whichever tuner is available.

If the two tuners can't tune the same channels, then you need different lineups for each tuner to allow each tuner to tune different sets of channels. This can be done by selecting a different provider or choosing to copy a lineup when presented with that option.

Either way allows SageTV to record multiple shows on multiple tuners; it all comes down to which channels each tuner can actually tune.
