HDfury2 as a HDMI input on the HD-PVR

Can the HDFury2 act as a transcoder between a HDMI cable box and the the HD-PVR?

eg cablebox with HDMI output->HDfury2->HD-PVR

Can you record off the HDMI input.

You can. but for the added cost of an HDFury 2 why not just use the component outputs? They produce a very good picture and the cable box is only capable of 1080i anyway...

I am looking towards the future if analogs are downrez'd.

But wouldn't the studios just notice the key for the fury2 and just block that?

Yup, I wouldn't invest much in this logic.

I'm sort of resurrecting this thread from the ashes, but thought everyone might be interested in a guest-post on GeekTonic today - "Keeping the Analog Hole Open" about using the HDfury2.

Ultimately the cost is the biggest problem with this issue, but it does show there are solutions if the analog hole was ever closed...
