wall outlet adapter

Anyone used one of those ethernet adapters that you plug into a wall outlet? Had any success? Thinking that is a easy fast way to get to my TV vs wireless or running a CAT5 cable.

You might want to try one of the Ethernet over coax adapters. I think that those tend to produce more consistent results. Do a search for "NIM-100" on the forums.

I just recently sent a pair back to Amazon because their speed actually turned out to be worse than the 54Mb wireless I was using before. In the end I just bit the bullet and ran a cable, albeit rather redneckish, to my HD100.

In the end it just wasn't giving me as much throughput for HD video as the wireless was. Just wasn't impressed at all. The product I got was the Actiontec MegaPlug 85. I read somewhere that these types of adapters work fairly well if the two locations are on the same circuit. But if they run through circuit breakers you're going to get a huge drop in performance.

I don't have any experience with them but if you really can't run a CAT5E or CAT6 ethernet cable the ethernet over coax would be the better way to go.

I have a pair of Trendnet 200Mbps Powerline adapters that I'm testing now and my throughput is really good, much better than wireless G. I've tested it in different outlets (different circuit breakers) and I'm really impressed. I've also used it with my kid's Xbox 360 and Wii with great results. I'm hoping that I'll be able to use it with the new HD extender.

I picked up the Netgear HDN101 hardware and also found that my 802.11g was faster and decided to run a single CAT6 cable from the switch upstairs to the TV room. It took nearly an entire day, but it was SOOOO worth it!
