SageTV smarter about multiple drives?
My SageTV PC has been rock solid for several years. So solid, that I'm afraid to touch it because I can't imagine it being any better.
However, with Digital TV / HDTV finally making its way into our household, I'm needing to upgrade our SageTV box. I'm reloading everything onto a new PC. Several years back, Sagetv was pretty dumb about the way it handled multiple drives in a system. Simply put, it ignored which drive was idle, and instead always recorded to the drive with the most space free. Meaning if you had 3 small drives, they would be ignored if you had one really large drive with a lot of space. Is the current version of Sage smarter? If I have 2 recording drives in the system and I'm recording 2 different shows at the same time, will sage record one show per drive? Thanks. |

Works the same as it always has.

I got a response from support last week that they were adding some more intelligence to the drive choosing system into this beta cycle. Its not there yet, but I'm keeping an eye out for it.

You can manually specify a storage path per source though, not perfect but better then nothing.

How do you do that?! I have 4 Silicon Dust HDHRs and 2 STB (waiting on my HD PVR 1212s), and frequently have three or four simultaneous recordings, yet they always just go to one drive. How can I spread this out (pick 2 HDHRs and 1 STB for each drive)?

Any word on what kind of intelligence they are adding to the recording drive selection. I would not thing this would be too difficult to add some intelligence to say if there is space available try to select a drive that is not already recording.
I've had issues a couple of times where too many things were going on with one drive and it started stuttering recordings. I'm prefer to not lock down tuners to certain drives since we'd risk running out of space on the smaller of the 2 disks. |
