Anyone successfully converted 4k clusters to 64k clusters without problems?

I would like to know if anyone has had any luck converting cluster sizes.
Last time i attempted i had some problems lost a few videos trying to use partition magic 8.

If you were successful what software were you using?

I've used Acronis for converting from NTFS to Linux without loosing data. I haven't done from 4k to 64K yet. But planning soon.

I didn't have any problems converting to 64k clusters using Partition Magic 8. I did that several years ago.

I've tried using partition magic and that didn't work for me, also this past weekend I tried Acronis Disk Director 10, kept getting an error that the resulting block was empty at new location.
Not having much luck at the moment but haven't given up yet.

what kind of error? Unreadable sector?

by the way, does chkdsk run OK ?

If so, try doing a (long) read-every-sector test using Windows' chkdsk or, I think Acronis Disk manager has one too.

I ran chkdsk before i tried, the error was "resulting block empty at new location" not sure what is causing this but could have to do with free space being less than 2%

yes thats next on my list, Im trying not to put any videos on my other recording drives as space is getting low. But once i start compressing again and delete my backups of certain files (keeping backups on important files cause sage likes to delete them when i change delete_when _ir_off property) ill give it another go.

Of course, the partition was exclusively controlled by Acronis during this.

I did this last month with Acronis Disk Director. Worked perfectly. No errors. All videos were fine afterwards. In the past, I've had problems with Partition Magic, so I stick to Acronis now.

Me too. Once burned; twice spurned.

I'm in the process of converting the clusters of my WHS pool from 4k to 64K, as we speak. I didn't lose any data but I moved the data around to make sure. Acronis gave me errors so I found another way, thankfully I had plenty of free space/drives.

Prudent to get chkdsk to run without error before converting block sizes.

I only had errors when I tried to use Acronis to convert to 64K, converting back to 4k got rid of the errors. The way I'm doing it now has been great, so far. I'm not converting my WHS system drive though, just the drives in the WHS storage pool, which is where I store my SageTV recordings, ripped DVD's, ripped CD's and photos (etc) anyway.

what kind of errors did Acronis report, given chkdsk succeeded? There could be sectors with CRC errors - chkdsk won't find those unless you tic the scan all sectors/surface option.

Acronis didn't report any errors, WHS did. It reported the converted drive as unhealthy. Converting it back to 4k (with Acronis) made WHS happy again.

Now I'm finished converting all of my drives (not using Acronis) in the WHS storage pool and WHS is happy, chkdsk is happy and Acronis reports no errors and verifies the conversion.

Hope that helps...
