How do I set HDPVR to 720p?

Hi all.
My TV is only 720p and, in order to not have to deal with interlacing when converting files, I'd like to set the HD-PVR to record in 720p.

I thought it was related to whatever resolution your cable box was set to, so last night I went through the setup and locked it to 720p.

The problem is I checked the recordings that took place today and they're still recording in 1080i.
How do I go about setting the device to record in 720p rather than 1080i?

I have the recording quality set to:
Great-H.264 - MPEG-2 TS @ 3.8 GB/hr

Do I need to switch it to 'Good', or does that not have any effect on the format / resolution?

Thanks for any info!

The format/resolution is determined by the source signal. Just set your Cable, or Satellite box to 720p and you will be set.

That's what I thought too.. but I just confirmed that my cable box is set for 720p only, but the video being recorded is still 1080i.

Do I need to power cycle the HD-PVR after making the change to the cable box?

I do not think so, but it could not hurt.

Double (triple?) check the settings on your STB, because the HD-PVR should be recording the resolution the box outputs; I don't believe it can change the resolution of what it records. I don't know about yours, but my STB displays the resolution of the current output on its front panel.

What STB do you have? Maybe someone will know what to check on it.

Ok I figured this out.
Apparently on my STB it has nothing to do with what you select as a valid output (at least when you have it set to a locked resolution anyway), it all has to do with the last source that you were on when you were in the advanced setup.

For instance, after checking my settings last night I made sure only 720p was selected as a source, but when I move past 720p the next source is 480p.

Because I exited setup on 480p (even though I didn't have it checked as a valid output) everything recorded at 480p today.
So I went back into setup, exited out when I was on the 720p source and now we're good to go.

I was getting some micro studder after switching to 720p, but I just installed the 1.1 drivers for the HDPVR and it seems to have helped that.

Thanks for the help all.
