Yeah, no kidding.
Between this and the new meta-data support in 6.5.12 I'm *this* close to Media Server perfection.

There's a audio quality problem that I'd like to solve first then I'll pass the beta around.

DVB-T problem
Yes, it's been over two years since I upgraded to version 6 for the support of DVB-T. Still the same problem has not been fixed for myself - (see TSSplitter.ax = Application Error).
I know some people (in the DVB-T world) do not have this problem, and others use something else as a Sage Network encoder. Over such a long period of time, Sage support (mostly Qian) managed to reduce the occurrences of this problem. But it still happen sometimes which causes missed recording and Windows Power Management to stop working (until reboot). Until this problem is fixed, I will NOT spend any more money on Sage. Because if Sage cannot reliably record all my favorites (just missed another Sunday night prime time recording), any more features is of no use to me.

People get different things from different threads. What I got was...
Version 6.x has been going for TWO years, which I believe everything from 6.0 to current has been free upgrades. One of my fears was how long the software I "buy" today will actually be "current". 2 years is AWESOME! I'd love free software for life, but it's better than worrying that version 7 will be out in 2 months and I'll have to buy another license. Also, our desires are different as well. I want a TiVo that has no monthly fee. The fact that I can run Windows on my "TiVo" and upgrade hardware by the piece instead of whole device only is awesome. I can't say for sure that SageTV offers every single thing that TiVo offers out of the box, but it obviously offers some things that TiVo has no desire to offer (Windows version, choice in hardware, etc). I'd be absurdly happy if I could BUY a TiVo (you lease them now) and not have to pay absurd monthly fees for guide data. We all have different "wants" and "needs". That little Dish DTVPVR thingy looks neat, until you find out immediately that it's YEARS behind TiVo. |

SageMC and MVP?
Does SageMC work on the MVP, or only on the PC?

SageMC definitely works on extenders, including the MVP. However, as is the case with all extras/plugins, there is some functionality that doesn't quite work on the extenders (like, I've never gotten the e-mail stuff to work, nor does the menu link for the DVD player). Also, from my experience, I don't think SageMC works very well on regular 4:3 TVs. I think you really want to run it on a widescreen TV. Things don't quite fit on the screen correctly if you have a 4:3 TV.

I used to run SageMC on an MVP for quite a while. Just make sure you disable all animations and probably fanart backgrounds as well.

I'm still using SageMC happily and won't be switching back to plain old default.
I've never got the email to work either just goes away for a long time and comes back with an error message. But SageMC has made a major contribution to me being a happier bunny than I was when I started this thread. Regards, Michael |
