"Timeout waiting for UIR Thread!" error

2.00 gH AMD Athlon XP
1024 MB Memory
Saphire theatrix 550 capture card
USB-UIRT


I'm setting up my first HTPC. Everything is going great except I can't get the USB-UIRT to change channels on the set top box (MotorolaDCT 2244). I think the problem is when I try to have sagetv/usb-uirt learn the codes from the remote. (My computer recognized and installed the drivers for the USB-UIRT with no problems.)

In the setup wizard, I am instructed to point the remote at the USB-UIRT and hold '0' so it can learn what IR code to send to the STB. I place the remote for the STB and the USB_UIRT very close to each other. When I hold down the button on the remote, I can see a light on the remote flashing and I see a light on the USB-UIRT flashing. However, after a couple of seconds I get a pop up box with the message "Error. Timeout waiting for UIR Thread!" with an 'ok' button to dismiss it.

Sometimes after this happens and I dismiss the message SageTV thinks that it has learned the code anyways and tells me to release the button, but more often than not, it doesn't acknowledge that I've pressed anything.

When I try to send the code to the STB through the USB-UIRT after this, of course it doesn't work.

Does anyone have any clues as to what is going on here? I have no idea how to go about troubleshooting this. Do you think it's the USB-UIRT or is it something in SageTV or is it something with my computer's hardware?
