Won an HDTV!

Holy cow! After thinking I'd never get an HDTV I ended up winning one in a raffle at work. It's not a great TV but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth considering right now I only have a 32" standard CRT. It's an Insignia 42" 1080p LCD, model NS-LCD42HD-09. I understand it is Best Buy's house brand (I didn't even know BB had a house brand). It's in my car right now. I can't wait to get it hooked up and working with my HD Extender.

I just ordered three HDMI cables from Monoprice which, if they ship today, should arrive on Monday.

I'm so happy!

Congratulations! I still recall receiving my first HDTV (a projector) and I was so excited I could barely contain myself...and I had to pay full price for mine. Free makes any experience that much better. Enjoy it. You've got some great TV coming your way.

My congratulations also! I remember how excited I was back in 2000 when I got my Proscan HDTV. I only had one HDTV channel to watch back then and I was thrilled. WELCOME TO THE 21st CENTURY!!!!!

Insignia/Rocketfish/Geek Squad/Dynex are all Best Buy house brands.

I work Geek Squad and we have to test returns and exchanges on all the TV's
(I guess fixing computers just isnt paying BBY's bills)

The insignia and Dynex TV's are a tad on the cheaper side, but overall its a descent peice of equipment.

The most common problem I see is the Jacks in the back failing.

Be gentle with them and youll be fine.

Also, I know you didnt buy it, but see if you can work out something with Best Buy and buy a service plan on it.

House brands tend to be "not serviceable" which means if anything were to happen to yours, it would be replaced with equal or like technology.

For example you have a 42" Insignia now... it beaks in 2 years, they dont make 42" tvs anymore (hypothetical) you would get the next best thing, and if the smallest tv they made was lets ay a 100" thats what you get. (again hypothetical)

Oh... and enjoy your prize!

Um, next time your office has a raffle, let us know. I'll send you a check for my 100 entries.

Congrats. As a (relative) newcomer to HDTV (about 6 months now), it's awesome, especially with the convenience of the HD Extender. I watch sports more than anything, and the difference in COLOR is astounding.

Now I need another one for the master bedroom. The wife is balking at that, big time. So, again, let me know about the next raffle.

Oh, I know how good HD quality is. I've been able to record HD for some time with my HDHR and I have an HD-PVR. I can watch the stuff in nearly 1080p on my main computer. And yes the color difference is amazing. I also have a BD-ROM drive and have been transcoding my BD movies to my NAS. Playing through the HD100 HD recordings even look better on an SDTV than do SD recordings. It will be great to finally be able to view them in full 1080 though. But I'll have to wait till Monday when my HDMI cables arrive. Unless I can cobble some RCA cables together to get component video till then.

Unfortunately it was a charity thing. Every year they try to get interest for the United Way by doing a drawing for things like free days off and stuff depending on how much you take out of each paycheck. Last year they added a TV to the mix. I think it was a 32" 720p last year though.
